Mood Disorder is a clinical term given to a group of diagnoses in the DSM IV guide where an imbalance in someone's mood (e.g. hyper or depressed) is the main underlying feature of their condition. Mood Disorder may also be referred to as Mood Affective Disorder. Two types of mood disorders (or mood affective disorders) are broadly recognized; there are depressive disorders, such as major depressive disorder (MDD), clinical depression or major depression. And bipolar disorder (BD), which used to be known as manic depression and is characterized by periods of mania or hypomania, interlaced with depressive episodes.
