My work is integrative and trauma-informed, centred around Psychodynamic, CBT, and mindfulness.
You may feel overwhelmed with anxiety, frightened and stuck, or not sure how to navigate difficult emotions or painful memories. It is isolating not to know where to turn, when to speak up, or how to connect with different parts of yourself. Therapy offers you the space to slow down in a supportive and non-judgmental environment, so you can connect to and care for all parts of yourself, and explore new ways of seeing and being seen. It allows you to be heard and accepted with all your complexities, questions, and fears and helps you process your feelings so you can reframe your beliefs through self-compassion.

I use techniques from many different modalities, including narrative therapy, emotion focused therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, existential therapy, and mindfulness, as I also have my own mindfulness practice.
Are you experiencing grief, anxiety, depression, or feelings of low self-esteem? Are you having trouble navigating your way through the loss of a loved one, a challenging relationship, or simply struggling to find meaning in your life? Many of us are knocked backwards by negative events that seem to unearth past hurts and make navigating our present and future more difficult. There are times when we need support and encouragement from outside of ourselves to help us navigate this inner world and push ourselves forward in our lives.

I am trained in emotion-focused, cognitive-behavioural, humanistic, DBT, and mindfulness approaches.
As a psychologist, I work with change. Change may involve shifts in awareness, attitude, behaviour, goals, acceptance, or coping strategies that will enhance your quality of life and well-being. Many obstacles can prevent us from living a satisfying life. These could be a history of trauma, invalidating relationships, habits that no longer serve us, or environments that may hinder our psychological growth. I can help you identify obstacles to your quality of life, develop strategies to tackle them, and set goals to increase and maintain your well-being.

My unique approach focuses on understanding the "why" behind your struggles using IFS and attachment theory, coupled with processing those life experiences that hold you back using EMDR and mindfulness.
You're self-aware and deeply committed to self-improvement, but you’re still noticing the same cyclical patterns and are feeling stuck. You've always been a step ahead in understanding yourself, yet find yourself caught in the same repetitive and limiting thoughts, behaviours, and emotions. This constant cycle often feels like a consequence of unprocessed past experiences that subtly dictate your life. Does this sound like you? You're not alone in this journey. Many self-aware individuals share your struggle, searching for the missing link that can unlock their path forward. Imagine no longer being bound by your past experiences.

Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy is my primary treatment modality but I also incorporate aspects of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Schema Therapy.
I work with adults across the lifespan who are highly motivated to learn more about themselves, active participants in their recovery, and committed to making meaningful changes in their life. Whether they're struggling with a mental disorder, a significant life stressor, relationship difficulties, or challenges at work or home, my clients want to improve how they're coping, not let their struggles define them, and evolve into a better version of themselves.

I also have training in CBT, mindfulness, and DBT Skills.
I’m an experienced Social Worker who supports my clients when they are feeling uncertain about how to move forward in life. Clients often come to me worried about their future, focused on past choices, or concerned that they aren’t where they are “supposed” to be. This may be due to unexpected changes or anticipated transitions.

I approach therapy through a trauma-informed and mindfulness-based lens, acknowledging that progress ebbs and flows in the pursuit of change.
Starting your therapy journey can be difficult, but I hope you know how courageous it is to take this first step on your journey to mental wellness. Sometimes, what brings you to therapy is a major life event that you need help navigating and sometimes, it is a variety of events that have built up over time. My goal is to help you make the transition to mental wellness as comfortable as possible, with the personal belief that a strong therapeutic alliance makes a positive impact on the change you want to achieve.

To help you, I use Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, as well as providin a space to guide self discovery, self expression, and self compassion. Mindfulness helps us to not get overwhelmed by our distressing thoughts and physical sensations and CBT provides techniques that help changing of thoughts, reactions, and habits. It is my belief that therapy helps heal, strengthen, and or change a person’s relationship with their self, history, and environment. This change can entail adopting coping skills, increasing awareness of how we treat our selves, and management of our environment.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
