My approach blends several types of therapy, including cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy and psychoeducation.
Eating disorders and exercise disorders have devastating effects on the individual suffering and those close to them. As a registered psychotherapist specializing in the treatment of eating and exercise disorders and co-occurring issues, I work collaboratively with clients to meet their own individual therapeutic needs as they bravely journey into full recovery. While I specialize in treating eating disorders, approximately half of my clients come to me with different concerns. I have extensive experience with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues.

Utilizing mindfulness and compassion-based therapy, I seek to help you develop a better understanding of your emotional and behavioural experiences so that you are able to gain a deeper appreciation for yourself and move towards creating meaningful change.
While trying to balance life’s many responsibilities, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed. During this time, you deserve to feel heard and understood. My goal as a therapist is to provide you with a safe environment where you can open up about your experience and learn the skills needed to create positive change in your life. I take a client-centred approach to counselling, where I conceptualize you as the expert on your own life.

My approach integrates traditional "top-down" talk therapy, such as narrative and cognitive therapy, with an emphasis on newer "bottom-up" modalities, such as mindfulness and Somatic Experiencing.
For over 10 years I've been counselling people with a range of stressors and mental illnesses to manage and improve their quality of life, largely within a university setting. My interest and focus for private practice is in working with people suffering from the impacts of trauma, anxiety and emotional dysregulation in general, and with challenges related to chronic illness. It has been my privilege to work with clients from very diverse backgrounds in my career, and I welcome adults of all ages, genders, cultures, ethnicities and faith traditions.

Techniques I use can include mindfulness and cognitive behavioural therapy.
Anxiety, a low self image or troubling habits can stop us from living up to our full potential. Maybe you are feeling it at work, in relationships, parenting or what you do in your spare time. Perhaps you are not following your passions because you are scared or feel unworthy or don't really know what your passions are. Well, the good news is that you are not giving up on your dreams. You are here! As a social worker and life coach, I have been helping my clients to uncover and follow their dreams to a peaceful, happy and fulfilled life for over 20 years. I believe in my clients' potential and I believe in you.

In my unique approach, I combine evidence-based practices such as ACT, self-compassion and mindfulness to help clients move from survive to thrive.
Asking for help is the bravest step you can take and I want to help you make the most of this courageous step forward. I specialize in adult ADHD and postpartum mood disorders. As a fellow parent (of 3) I know how this time can bring great joy and simultaneously be the cause of overwhelm. If you have ADHD know that it does not define you, but it does impact your brain processes. To be the person deep in your heart, the work starts from the inside out. Together, we'll make sense of your pain, learn transformative skills, improve functioning and self-regulation.

My theoretical orientation is in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness, narrative and solution-focused therapy.
Now accepting new clients. When we experience chronic and severe life stressors, it is not uncommon for our lives to unravel. Sometimes we find ourselves struggling with everyday tasks, becoming easily overwhelmed or feeling disconnected from our life, goals and loved ones. Together we can find healthy perceptions of yourself and strengthen that feeling of connection.

Are you looking to make change in your life? I use cognitive behavioural therapy, which is based on years of research and empirical evidence, to help people get to the roots of their problems and make lasting change. For some clients, I integrate mindfulness training into my approach. This involves developing self-compassion, accepting what we cannot control and living in the present moment. I strongly believe in a collaborative approach to therapy, and take a very active role in guiding my clients.

Mindfulness helped to change my life, and I'm here to show you how it can help you too.
Your mind is constantly telling you that you need to do more, but it's hard just to get out of bed in the morning. Chronic pain makes everyday tasks really hard. Everyone around you seems normal and you wonder how they have it all together. Maybe family and friends are supportive, but you worry about being a burden. Or maybe your life is good on paper and nobody sees your struggles, nobody sees your pain. As someone who has lived with chronic pain and anxiety, I know how hard life can get. I understand how isolating it can all be.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
