I believe that effective therapy takes place in an atmosphere of safety, respect, and caring. When a person comes to therapy, a healing process is already underway. As this process is recognized and strengthened, the client is free to move toward wholeness. I use empathic listening and questions to help clarify the presenting problem and set it in the context of the person's life journey with its healthy call for spiritual and psychological growth. Writing, guided visualization, role playing and art may also be used to bring forth inner wisdom and to explore alternative ways to meet challenges.
My special areas of focus are: relationship and family issues; communication and conflict resolution; healing the past; dealing with grief and loss; self-esteem and assertiveness; dealing with stress and anxiety; coming out issues; career and life choices; and dealing with creative blocks to liberate creativity.
In my work I draw from Jungian and Narrative perspectives, as well as my Native American heritage, Buddhist meditation practice, and my experience as a writer, poet, and mother. I design and facilitate personal growth and writing workshops.
