I help adults make sense of what triggers their own reactivity with their kids, where that came from, how it plays out in their relationships and how to tame those triggers to break the cycle of authoritarian and shame based parenting. It is hard work making those changes but I truly believe it’s never too late to repair those relationships. Using EMDR, I help clients process past childhood memories that hold those negative reactions, so that we can heal and parent from a more empathetic and respectful place. I truly believe that the hardest part of parenting is undoing the hardwiring we experienced during our own childhood.
Parenting has changed a lot since we were parented. What we know now about child development, the brain, attachment is so different from what our parents knew about children and how they parented. I love to work with parents who are trying to figure out how to show up differently for their kids and break the cycle of unhealthy dynamics they grew up with.
Additionally, as a Certified Step Family Counsellor I assist step parents to manage the complicated process of living in a step family. Stop walking on eggshells. Parents who work with me appreciate my straightforward and down-to-earth approach. I offer 24/7 online scheduling, after school appointments, and parent support.
