Healthy relationships (including the one with ourselves) are necessary for humans to thrive. What characterizes a healthy relationship, and what influences our ability to participate in them is explored in therapy. Human beings crave attachment and connection but also engage in behaviors that can be hurtful and damaging. Therapy is about healing from the past, learning about boundaries and the process of repair, understanding patterns, self reflection, and working towards goals that are aligned with our values, desires, and needs. I am passionate about working with people of all walks of life who want to create meaningful change.

As a registered Circle of Security Parenting program facilitator, I integrate play and art therapy in helping parents to restore emotional security with their kids.
"Why me? Why do I need to feel the pain?" Most of my clients asked some similar questions at the beginning of their therapy. They may be disconnected from others and being isolated. Therapy can offer them opportunities to make sense of their experiences, understand more about how things had happened, and rebuild relationships among themselves and others. During the therapeutic journey, my clients may take different perspectives to make sense of their experiences and learn new life skills to cope with their distress. They may feel more comfortable feeling uncomfortable and able to make new choices.

I love working with parents to shift inter-generational patterns and deepen connection in their families, and as an artist myself, I love working with other artists!
I believe in the innate goodness of all people, and that we are doing the best we can at any given time. Sometimes, the problems feel big, the hurt is too much, and we really struggle - and we might need extra support to overcome these challenges. That might look like reconnecting to our strengths, processing difficult and painful experiences, and repairing with ourselves and our loved ones. Many of my clients come to therapy for support with navigating life transitions, conflict in their relationships, wanting to better understand themselves, or feeling ready for change without knowing exactly what the end goal looks like yet.

I also have a passion for doing something I call Parenting EMDR, which helps parents work through their trauma triggers about their kids.
I believe you’ve been searching through these pages because you feel overwhelmed and are afraid of what will happen to you if you don’t make changes. Time after time, you either avoid negative emotions within yourself, or you search for better distractions to alleviate the negative feelings you now experience. I help people develop a healthier relationship with their emotions and help them align with their own authentic intuition. I believe transformation can happen when people find a way to reparent their inner selves in a more compassionate and authentic way.

This could include feeling better, improving your relationships, enhancing your parenting skills, coping with grief and loss, overcoming past trauma, or addressing obstacles that are adversely affecting your mental health.
I offer EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and Brainspotting to help overcome the effects of trauma. If you are interested in exploring mind-body connections, I utilize trauma-sensitive yoga. In some circumstances I use DBT (dialectical behaviour therapy) to provide coping tools to manage the stress and challenges in your life.

I work in collaboration with individuals, couples, parents, and families to identify goals that encourage growth and movement.
Throughout life we encounter circumstances that contribute to distress and overwhelm, and a hope for things to be different. I believe that change is always possible. I believe all feelings, such as sadness, pain, anxiety, anger, joy, and love serve an important function and provide us with information about ourselves and what we need. I recognize the complex roles of family, community, history, and culture contribute to who we are, what we feel, and how we cope.

What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
