During counselling sessions, I provide a safe and therapeutic environment while assisting clients who are struggling with grief and loss, anger management challenges, work/life balance, and daily frustrations.
“In my early professional years I was asking the question, How can I treat, or cure, or change this person? Now I would phrase the question in this way: How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for his own personal growth?” I am truly inspired by this quote from Carl Rogers, an American psychologist and one of the founders of humanistic psychology. In my private practice, I adopt a strengths-based perspective/solution focused approach while helping clients strive toward their personal growth. I am a registered social worker with over twenty years of experience helping clients navigate through life’s many challenges

Sharing your innermost thoughts and feelings can be hard. As your therapist, I'm here to listen and help guide you and your children through challenging times. I practice client-centered techniques such as narrative therapy, family systems, art therapy, storytelling approaches, sand-tray therapy and relationship enhancing parent/child activities. While adults talk, a child's language is play, their words are toys. I use puppets, art, sand-tray, games etc. to help them express their feelings. Every child deserves to be seen and heard. I also use sand tray and art with youth and adults to help them express emotions symbolically.

Beginning therapy can be challenging! It takes courage to put yourself out there and begin to talk about "you". Many of us have received the message growing up that we shouldn't share with others what is bothering us but this is simply not true. Experiencing struggles within life is part of the human experience and we all deserve non-judgmental support. Whatever you may be experiencing, there has never been a better time to receive the support you deserve to feel better within your life.

Do you often feel stuck or weighed down by self-doubt? On the outside, you seem put together, but inside, it’s constant second-guessing. You overthink conversations, worry you’ve said the wrong thing, and when emotions finally surface, anxiety turns into frustration or withdrawal. Afterward, guilt sets in, and you wish you could explain what was really going on underneath. You try to stay calm, kind, in control—not a burden—but the pressure builds, and you’re left wondering, “What’s wrong with me?” If this resonates, therapy can help.

You’re managing career, family, and social expectations–and still–that voice in your head (that loud and all-consuming voice) says, “Not enough.” That’s not you being dramatic – it’s your inner critic. Though it tries to keep you safe, it also keeps you stuck, pulling you away from a fruitful life. I’m Rachelle Bauer, a Canadian Certified Counsellor and health coach. I help women impacted by modern-day pressures untangle beliefs holding them back from living a balanced, fulfilling life. Let’s make room for curiosity and compassion and learn what it means to truly thrive. Even better if we can do this in nature, away from the noise.

There have been times in my life when I was convinced that I was the problem; seeing myself this way led to a great deal of confusion, hopelessness, loneliness and desperation. A turning point for me was discovering the statement, “the person is not the problem, the problem is the problem”; this principle helped me to separate problems from my sense of who I am, it eased the burden of blame and judgment; helped me to take new responsibility for the challenges I was experiencing, and reminded me that along with challenges I have also engaged with skills, values, hopes, commitments and aspirations.

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
