Are you working too hard to make others happy? Do you act like "everything is fine" but inside feel exhausted from keeping it up? Add on anxiety and overthinking as an attempt to rebuild your self esteem and it can turn into a vicious cycle where you are never quite good enough. You deserve to cultivate more peace within yourself, let go of your concerns about measuring up and feel calm enough to focus on what's truly important to you. It can feel defeating to navigate this on your own, but you are in the right place for help. We can use EMDR as a powerful therapy approach for clients with anxiety, stress and trauma.

Sometimes life can leave us feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from ourselves, even if we’re doing our best to hold things together. Anxiety, stress, or a life transition may have left you feeling unsure of what you need or where to begin. You’re wanting to feel more grounded, more like yourself again, and less alone in it. I offer a calm, supportive space where you don’t have to have the right words or have it all figured out. I bring both professional training and lived experience into my work, and I know how heavy it can feel to carry things on your own for a long time.

I help people who carry significant responsibility, pressure or expectations in their lives and work- often high performers, first responders, or ambitious adults navigating anxiety, burnout, or major life transitions, including the perinatal period. You may push hard, deliver results, and hold high standards, yet find that your usual ways of coping are no longer providing the clarity or steadiness you want. You don’t have to choose between doing hard things and staying well. My work helps you step out of autopilot and build practical skills that help you function more effectively, both personally and professionally.

Seeking therapy is a sign of a personal strength, not a weakness. It takes awareness in our lives and courage to be able to reach out for help. Often people who engage in therapy are actually doing well in life but would like to do better in one area or another. I believe that the client is the expert on them and it is my role to support them to reach the goals that they set. Now excepting virtual clients in British Columbia.

As a client-centered Relational Therapist, I have the privilege of working with families, relationships and individuals. I help find the strength to create life changes, by identifying current patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving, while working toward increasing an overall sense of well-being. I believe that a strong, trusting, and comfortable therapeutic relationship coupled with a compassionate and respectful approach fosters a safe environment. It is here that difficult topics and the sense of being "stuck" can be discussed and explored, until new/different ways for sustainable change can be found and implemented.

The world is a busy, messy and noisy place of existence for many of us nowadays. If you are finding it challenging to balance the many versions of yourself and the varied roles you must play in your life to survive its challenges, you are not alone. When people come together and talk, it is then that beautiful things can happen and pieces of ourselves begin to unlock and then flourish. In therapy, I hope to shine a light on the inherent strengths within you and help you see yourself as capable of creating meaningful change in your life while developing self-compassion. We also often have Renny the Dog visit our therapy sessions!

Sometimes it feels like you’re just moving through the motions of life, staying busy yet feeling anxious when you finally slow down. Maybe you notice brain fog or a sense of disconnection. Maybe you’re doing so much, and yet it still feels like not enough. If this sounds like you, I want you to know your feelings are valid. On the outside, life might look okay, but inside you might feel tired, unfulfilled, sad, anxious, or overwhelmed. It’s okay to make a big deal out of what feels big to you. You deserve a safe place to pause, reconnect, and do the soul-searching that can bring more clarity, healing, and balance.

I’m currently welcoming new clients for virtual appointments. I understand that starting therapy can feel awkward or daunting, and I'm here to help you navigate those first steps with care and support. I work with people who’ve been through tough experiences—whether that’s trauma, difficult childhoods, mood challenges like anxiety or depression, or struggles in relationships. I understand how those experiences can affect how we think, feel, and connect with others. In therapy, we’ll take time to understand what’s going on beneath the surface, find ways to cope, and help you feel more in control of your life.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
