My name’s Martin and I’m a Registered Psychologist who works with children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples. I most often work with people experiencing depression, anxiety (e.g., panic, OCD, generalized worries), and family and relationship difficulties, but also have experience in therapy and assessment with ADHD in children and adults. I place a strong focus on the ways that we experience emotions as well as how we communicate with others, but even more importantly with ourselves. Without necessarily realizing, we are constantly talking to ourselves through our thoughts and constructing how we experience the world.
I like to focus on the ways that we add distress and intensity to our emotional experiences. In many situations, it’s not our emotions, like sadness or anxiety, that create difficulties in our lives but rather the way that we react and relate to those feelings, usually by trying to make them stop or by getting upset with ourselves for having them.
I look forward to getting to know you, your child, or your family by first building a strong therapeutic relationship based on an understanding of the internal, emotional world you, or your child, experiences. It’s important to really get to know each person as a whole individual before being able to understand the struggles a person is going through.
