I am a Registered Clinical Psychologist with over ten years of experience working with adults in acute and clinical populations. I specialize in the psychology of Obesity Management, Bariatric Surgical Intervention, and ancillary complications such as Binge Eating Disorder, ADHD, Emotional Overeating, Anxiety, and Depression. My primary therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Other therapeutic approaches, such as Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Psychoeducation, Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing, are used as required. I approach therapeutic sessions collaboratively and strive to create strong working relationships that draw from each client's strengths.
Bariatric Support Psychology is a unique area of specialty that primarily targets Binge Eating Disorder and Emotional Overeating related to Morbid Obesity. These disorders often present with symptoms of anxiety and/or depression. I offer both Individual and Small Group Psychotherapy to target these issues.
Ideally, my clients leave therapy feeling empowered and optimistic about going forward with better self-awareness, healthier perspective taking, and greater self-acceptance. I have good relationships with community psychiatrists and can provide referrals for medication consultations. My clients often see clear behaviour change that promotes better management of obesity/bariatric surgery-related psychological issues.
