You are a parent of a child or teen who is struggling at school, home or elsewhere. Because of this, you doubt your abilities as a parent, argue with them more than you want to, and feel embarrassed or guilty about their behaviour. Children and teens deal with many of the issues that adults do (anxiety, depression, lack of confidence, learning challenges, grief, life transitions, relationship issues, emotional management) except with less skills and life experiences to help them cope. I work with families to manage the challenges that they are facing and move forward. I also work individually with adults on adult challenges.
I want to work as a team, so I meet with parents first, then on an ongoing basis, to understand the situation and strategize together. (The exception to this is with older teens where parents are usually not involved past the initial consultation.) Once I begin working with the child, this can involve drawing, games, puppetry, storytelling, and role play.
After an initial phone consultation, I can usually book a first session within a week. Sessions are by videoconference which means they are an easy addition to your extra-curricular schedule. We can meet at times that are more convenient for you, there are no traffic hassles or parking fees, and bad weather isn't an issue. I look forward to hearing from you.
