EMDR is a therapy that has you focus on a trigger or trauma while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (eye movement, tapping or tones), leading to a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the incident. EMDR is an evidence-based treatment for triggers and trauma that follows a well-defined protocol but leaves room for flexibility. With an ecopsychology approach, I find EMDR - a somatic/body processing technique using alternating bilateral stimulation (eye movement, tapping or tones) - as an effective way to decrease the emotional charge attached to incidents, negative beliefs, thoughts and more. I also use IFS-informed EMDR (Internal Family Systems) and most recently I am training in Hypnotherapy to also use with EMDR.
