Therapists in M6P
Taking the first step to begin therapy is very challenging. I strive to provide a safe & non-judgmental space for you to discuss & explore whatever thoughts & concerns you want to bring. By deepening your ability to be introspective & self-compassionate, we can explore possible negative thinking patterns/habits that may be interfering with your happiness or daily life. My style is warm, compassionate, empathetic, & collaborative, but also direct & solution-focused. I have many years of experience with children/teens, but I also work with adults. I have learned ways to engage even the most reluctant young people to promote change.

I have observed that the patients I care for struggle with the very things that make us human namely unhelpful thoughts, feelings, perceptions, and beliefs about themselves others and the world. These often lead to inner conflicts that rob us of the peace and contentment we desire. As a fellow traveler, I have found that most of us want to feel confident, fulfilled in our relationships, and lead purposeful lives while handling challenges with resiliency, courage and effectiveness. While this can seem elusive in an increasingly complex, accelerating world of personal and professional dislocation, a path forward exists.

You may have spent years being labeled—or labeling yourself—as scattered, anxious, inconsistent, disorganized, or lazy. Over time, that internal narrative can quietly erode your confidence. If self-criticism were effective, it would have worked by now. Instead, you’re here, considering a different approach—one that might feel kinder, more sustainable, and maybe even help you access that elusive “potential” people keep mentioning. What if the issue isn’t that you’re broken, but that you’ve been trying to function in systems that were never designed for how your brain works?

When we are with another, we are acted upon in ways that may struggle to reach the worded dimension and yet, these articulations of unconscious and somatic life are present without effort or labour. Without reflection or consideration, these states of being may pass from our conscious awareness and find expression through more circuitous routes. I see myself as an aid to make these parts of human experience more explicit and communicable and to hold space for being with the complicated intersections of our shared humanity.

While the specific reasons people seek therapy vary, we come to the work because we recognize that some psychic and emotional pain is preventing us from living our most dynamic and meaningful lives. Therapy is a process of inner work that allows us to work through those barriers. In a supportive, non-judgemental therapeutic relationship we can begin to encounter the unknown and disavowed aspects of ourselves and in doing so learn from these parts of ourselves, heal and integrate, and transform our relationship to ourselves and others.

I have a Masters in Counseling Psychology from OISE UofT the University of Toronto where I learned to use research-supported methods to help clients be empowered. Genuine, non-judgemental, and empathetic by nature, I am passionate about helping people navigate some of life’s most difficult struggles. My passion for psychotherapy stems from witnessing our resiliency when given the proper support and a safe place to heal. In my practice, I meet clients where they're at and aim to walk alongside them as a supportive guide in their therapeutic journey. For some, therapy is about healing past trauma or working through emotionally turbulent times; for others, it's about finding closure, self discovery, or confiding in someone unrelated to their circumstance.

Hi, I’m Stephanie. I offer a welcoming art therapy space through my small, client-centred, non-corporate psychotherapy practice, where each person’s experiences are met with time, care, and attention.
My studies in psychology, women’s studies, child studies, and art therapy, alongside professional experience in education, have shaped my understanding of how family dynamics and broader social systems influence whether people feel safe, valued, and free to be themselves. They also inspire my commitment to fostering creativity and connection as a way to nurture agency, self-expression, and joy.

Sometimes it just feels like life is too heavy to carry alone. I know that feeling.
For me, therapy isn’t about fixing what’s wrong. It’s about becoming more alive, more embodied, more aware of what’s here. It is a process of learning to listen to yourself, of discovering the parts of you that are in conflict, that are hard hold and longing to be heard and seen. I believe one can't do this alone. My goal is to co-create an environment where you feel safe enough to explore these parts and those feelings you've learned to protect by avoiding and shutting them down because they were unsafe to feel.

I work with individuals and couples seeking deeper understanding and connection. My typical client is thoughtful and capable but stuck in familiar patterns shaped by underlying worries, guarded feelings, or a sense of disconnect or loneliness that can fuel conflict and/or distance. They may reach for closeness only to feel pushed away or pull back to protect themselves when emotions feel overwhelming. They come seeking healing and a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships. They want to feel safe sharing their true feelings and build connections based on trust, openness, and lasting closeness.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.
Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
