You may be struggling with anxiety, relationship challenges, or the lingering effects of past experiences that still impact your daily life. This can feel like being frozen, numb, or too anxious to focus. Sometimes it shows up as pulling away from friends, being too reliant on them, or struggling to feel accepted and connected. These challenges can be overwhelming for both you and those close to you, leaving you longing for a sense of calm, confidence, and clarity in your relationships.

You may feel uncertain about your sense of self, questioning your identity, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. Anxiety, life transitions, or relationship struggles may leave you disconnected and unsure of how to move forward. Many clients I work with want to feel more grounded, confident, and aligned with who they truly are, with a stronger sense of clarity and direction.

Looking for a therapist can feel overwhelming. Whether this is your first time starting therapy or have tried counselling before and want something different, you don’t have to navigate it alone. You may be coping with anxiety, grief, stress, burnout, or a life transition. Parenting challenges, relationship or family issues, self-esteem concerns, or the unique experiences of ADHD or ASD can also take a toll. These struggles can leave you feeling drained and uncertain about the future. Or, you might be tired of acting fine when, in truth, you’re not. Here, you’ll find a safe, compassionate space to process what you’re going through.

I am a psychotherapist with more than 20 years of experience. Therapy with me is a process of deepening your understanding of yourself through a series of conversations that will help you identify the root of your problems and their effect on your life. Understanding the root of your problems will help you make changes in your life. Some of our conversations may be about things you 'know' about while at other times, you will be surprised. Together we will explore and make sense of how your life has unfolded and look at what works and doesn't work about your life.

Life can present numerous challenges, and many face difficult emotions such as anger, confusion, and sadness. These feelings can be particularly overwhelming, especially when connected to relationship struggles. Whether it's conflicts with family members, friends, or romantic partners, the sense of isolation often accompanies these struggles can feel daunting. It’s easy to feel like you’re navigating these turbulent waters alone, but I want to emphasize that you are not alone in facing these challenges.

Growing up in a society and culture that can make it hard to open up about problems, we can miss how professional help can empower us to tackle our addictions, heal anxiety and anger, and create fulfilling relationships by overcoming our insecurities and learning how to argue better. I have always been interested in deeply exploring how to be a more confident person who I can respect with healthier habits, being strong in my mind and heart, and being more capable of handling conflict within my relationships and family so that I can have a fulfilling life.

Do you struggle with destructive and self-destructive emotions that affect your ability to be a loving partner, to enjoy beautiful moments of life, or to cope better with challenging circumstances you are going through right now? Do you feel like you are trapped in a habitual circle of anxiety, jealousy, anger, loneliness, depression? Do you question yourself whether you live your own life, whether things could ever change? Now more than ever, people are feeling the acute need for renewal, for breaking the old circle of emotional reactions. Not addressing this need can lead to deep separation from your true, potential self.

Feeling stuck in stress, self-doubt, or patterns that no longer serve you? I work with adults and teens to help untangle the habits, thoughts, and emotional cycles that keep you feeling overwhelmed or disconnected, so you can move toward greater clarity, calm, and connection. I work with individuals navigating ADHD, OCD, anxiety, life transitions, identity exploration, and complex cultural or relational dynamics. Many of my clients are insightful and self-aware; they have done the reading and the reflecting but still find themselves stuck in patterns they can’t quite shift.

Hi, I'm Ted. I specialize in treating men who are navigating addiction and related challenges. Whether you’re dealing with mild or more severe substance use, I start with the same question: Why the pain? Addiction isn’t the heart of the problem. It’s a coping strategy for managing our pain. It works until it doesn’t. That’s why our work doesn’t stop at addiction. My scope of practice extends to relationships, identity, trauma, anxiety/mood disorders, masculinity, and anything else that might be fuelling the need to escape.

What if therapy was more than just talking? Sometimes that means slowing down, tuning in, or experimenting gently with new ways of noticing. In our work, we might explore what anxiety feels like in your shoulders, give voice to a younger part that’s been carrying too much, or even pick a theme song for your inner critic. My approach is relational, creative, and grounded in curiosity. It’s a space for untangling what’s been stuck, so that change can start to feel possible again.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
