You may already understand your patterns. You can explain why you react the way you do, but insight hasn’t changed the cycle. In relationships, anxiety, self-criticism, or habits, the same reactions keep repeating. Therapy can help you work directly with the deeper patterns underneath those cycles. I work primarily from an Internal Family Systems (IFS) lens. IFS understands the mind as made up of different parts—one that wants to stop drinking, another that reaches for the bottle; one that craves connection, another that shuts people out.

Are you feeling stuck, anxious, down or disconnected? Even if you’ve built a successful life, it’s possible to feel weighed down by self-doubt or worry. For 30 years, I’ve helped people get to the roots of what’s holding them back.
One fundamental truth that I have learned over the years is: What we have experienced, we expect. We won’t just focus on surface "fixes" for your symptoms (e.g., social anxiety, traumatic fears, and non-assertiveness); we will work together to understand their root causes and dismantle and heal them so that they can be replaced by new authentic ways of being within yourself, others, and the world.

It can be very hard to be a young person in today's world, especially as one moves towards greater independence. You may ask yourself: Who am I? Where am I going? Why do I feel so overwhelmed and stressed? How do I deal with these feelings? Is this the right relationship for me? You may feel stuck and unsure about how to move through it. Like so many young people, you may be facing stressors like transitioning to your first job or post-secondary education, living on your own for the first time, or living with anxiety, depression, or unresolved trauma. Counselling can be a space to get to know yourself better and find solid footing.

I help my clients with challenges in their personal, relational and professional roles, using their own strengths, negative thought patterns, and past experiences. I help my clients work through their new roles in life as a parent, partner, etc.
Parents may specifically find our sessions helpful as we discuss the parenting styles, how they bond with the child, and how parenthood has been impacting the partner's dynamic. I also help immigrants and new comers work through their negative feelings such as guilt, sadness, fears and self-doubts; uniquely, adult children who carry a sense of guilt towards their aging parents back home.

What if your or your partner’s anger is actually a desire for a deeper connection? It’s a paradox that angry reactions push our partners/family/friends away when what we need is closeness. Hurt or fear could be behind anger. Or perhaps underlying depression, anxiety or trauma. Anger could be expressed harshly, silently or many ways in between; either way it builds walls. Whatever stands in the way of better connections can be uprooted and healed. Negative emotions and walls of anger don’t have to remain. You can overcome them and build the relationships you have longed for.
