You may be feeling overwhelmed, lost in transition, or struggling to find clarity in your identity or relationships. Perhaps you are navigating anxiety, burnout, or a deep sense of self-doubt. Ofcourse, you want relief, but more than that, you want to feel seen, grounded, and whole. You long for a space where your full story is welcomed, where healing is not rushed, and where growth feels possible.

My ideal clients are adults who feel overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, or deeply affected by experiences they can’t fully explain. They may be navigating trauma, major life transitions, or long-standing emotional patterns shaped by relationships, culture, or past experiences. They want relief, clarity, and a deeper understanding of themselves—not quick fixes. Their goal is to feel more grounded, emotionally aware, and able to move through life with greater self-compassion and choice.

Chances are, if you’ve found your way here, something in your life feels off. You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of yourself, even if things look “fine” on the outside. You may be looking for clarity and a space where you don’t have to have everything figured out. In our work together, there’s room to slow things down. You don’t need to perform, impress, or make sense of everything right away. We take things one step at a time, with curiosity, honesty, and a bit of kindness for the parts of you that have been trying their best.

Hey you! I’m Dorothy - thank you for being here. I’m a social worker & psychotherapist who specializes in supportive work with children, youth and families. I guide humans to be gentle and curious with themselves, their stories, and their environments, so that they can practice new ways of being that are in alignment with their hopes and true self. Sometimes, systemic oppression (i.e. racism, cisheteropatriarchy, colonialism, capitalism) can affect how we reach our goals. My practice is dedicated to exploring the ways in which supportive relationships can not only support our healing, but create more social justice around us.

The early stages of a child's life are the most vital for socioemotional development and a child's inner world is often complex and full of intricacies. Social anxiety, depression, the after effects of separation and divorce, and phobias are just some of the challenges that children may face in their lives. As every child is unique, these challenges can show up in a multitude of ways. Acknowledging these obstacles is the first step towards overcoming them and allowing children to become better adjusted. Any child can live up to their full potential given they have the right support in their life.

As someone who lives and works between cultures, I understand how migration can quietly reshape our sense of self. You might be navigating two (or more) worlds—feeling like you belong everywhere and nowhere all at once. You may be fluent in a new language but still long to speak in your mother tongue when it comes to your pain, your past, your inner world. I’m here to meet you there. I’m a mental health counsellor with a PhD in Psychology, providing services in English and Turkish — in person (Toronto) and online (Ontario). Since 2013, I’ve worked with adults, children, teens, couples, and families from diverse backgrounds.

TL;DR: This is for people who are insecure adults, anxious perfectionists, imposter syndrome worriers or someone navigating trauma and self-discovery. You might feel like nothing goes right despite your best efforts. Everything you do seems to be not good enough. You might be asking yourself, "is there a better way?" You want to stop repeating old patterns, set better boundaries, prioritize your needs for once, feel at peace in your relationships with others, and with yourself. You’re looking for insight, clarity, and tools that actually work in the real world, not just in theory.

Sometimes we are mentally injured by events or accidents in our lives; they can cause shallow or deep wounds and trauma to our emotions. In some cases, we scratch our wounds unconsciously, making them worse instead of accepting and healing them compassionately. An uncompassionate focus on our injuries or pain can erode our quality of life. They may bring stress, anxiety, depression, and other uncomfortable feelings. Counselling can soothe wounds and ease pain. I try to help you heal those wounds and improve your health. I will be with you throughout this journey, listening to you and gaining insight together.

Do you feel like something needs to change but not sure how? Together we can embark on a process of helping you understand what may be behind the struggles you are facing & what may be in the way of you changing. From there, we work on resolving the root causes of your issues, in turn allowing you to make more conscious choices that are aligned with how you'd like to feel. I prioritize creating a strong therapeutic relationship with clients & take an integrative approach, applying therapeutic modalities to help with the specific issue we are working on (including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural and somatic approaches).

My ideal client is someone who feels stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves or others. They may be struggling with anxiety, depression, burnout, relationship difficulties, or a lingering sense that something isn’t quite right — even if they can’t fully put it into words. Often, they are thoughtful, self-aware individuals who have tried to “push through” on their own but are now realizing they don’t want to carry everything alone anymore. What they need most is not to be fixed, judged, or rushed, but to be understood. They want a space where they can slow down, reflect, and make sense of their inner world without blame

You’re exhausted from trying to keep it all together. Always overthinking, always analyzing, always wondering if you said the wrong thing, or if you cared too much, or not enough. You keep showing up for others while quietly shrinking yourself. You’re emotionally tired, burnt out from trying so hard to feel better, be better, or figure out who you are underneath it all. Maybe you're stuck in patterns you can see but can't seem to change. Or you're carrying pain that no one else sees because you’ve learned how to hide it well. And deep down, there’s a part of you that knows it doesn’t have to be this way.

I primarily work with men who struggle to express their vulnerabilities and emotions—especially to their partners. Many of my clients come to therapy weighed down by fear, anxiety, past trauma, addiction, ADHD challenges, or deep loneliness, unsure of how to talk about what they’re going through without feeling judged or misunderstood. In our sessions, I provide a safe and supportive space where you can explore your emotions openly. When you feel secure, it becomes easier to face painful experiences, understand your patterns, and take ownership of your feelings.

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postal code, or a provider’s name into the search bar. Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
