I know it can be hard to begin seeing a counsellor, and I will work hard to help you feel safe and comfortable. I am interested and experienced in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, relationship problems, and stress management, using the latest therapeutic techniques. I have a particular interest in helping adults cope with the suffering caused by abuse. I am fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, and am very familiar with cross-cultural issues and problems experienced by individuals and families with a Chinese background.
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BCACC. I hold a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in counselling psychology. My background of training in individual counselling is complimented by training at a mental health team, which gave me experience providing compassionate care to clients with severe, chronic, major mental illnesses.
I use a therapeutic approach grounded in the work of Carl Rogers, based on empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard. I am also strongly influenced by existential therapy as well as other modern therapeutic systems. I respect the individuality of each person, and enjoy forming a unique therapy plan based on the client’s individual wishes.
