I am a Halifax-based counsellor, psychotherapist, and creative arts therapist with a background in mindfulness, body-based, and trauma-oriented modalities. I believe that to struggle is a fundamental part of human experience. As humans are relational beings, we need to be witnessed, supported and deeply heard in order to process and expand beyond our grief and our pain. We all have the innate capacity for healing. With the right space to hold and befriend our difficult memories and emotions, our minds and bodies learn that there can be safety, freedom, and possibility in our lives.
I approach therapy through a critical, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed lens. I believe that our emotions and thoughts are shaped by our broader cultural context, and the ways we have learned to frame our experiences. I think that learning to be compassionate to ourselves on this path can make for a journey full of meaning, growth and discovery.
My training includes mindfulness based and trauma-centered approaches, with a focus in Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems/parts work, EMDR and Brainspotting. I am currently embarking upon a learning/training journey in Compassionate Inquiry.
