We live in the time of greatest wealth and technological connectiveness in human history. And yet, people are more anxious, depressed, prone to procrastination and social isolation than ever before. Can both be true? Yes, because we also live in a time of unprecedented change and uncertainty. We all long for connection, but we just don't know how to get and stay there. Finding a safe and confidential place to talk, to unburden problems and search for solutions might be the best, most certain first step you can take in this uncertain world. Our meaning and mental health hangs in the balance.
It is important to identify problems, our points of resistance to change, and to acknowledge pain that results from problems. My counselling approach includes developing strategies, a plan for recovery, a road to, or back to good mental health. Let’s work to develop a plan, evidence-based strategies to enact the plan, and make sure the plan gets done.
A successful counselling relationship requires two key ingredients: commitment to the process, and therapeutic alliance. Let’s really talk, and then roll up our sleeves and get to work.
