Life is a journey: it has a beginning; it has an end. The journey between these two points can take us on many different paths. The path we travel is uniquely our own. No other person encounters the world quite the way we do. The most important aspect of our lives is the journey within, one which is often overlooked until a time of crisis and deep, personal pain, or when one is driven by personal circumstances to become introspective and evaluate their lives.

As we journey through life, unfair things happen. The associated thoughts, feelings and people can stay with us as painful memories, create a sense of burden and influence our future expectations. While we can't change the past, it is under our control to change the way we look at what happened. As challenging events and relationships unfold, we can control how we respond. We do this by becoming more aware of automatic negative reactions and replacing them with healthier thoughts, feelings and behaviours. In sessions, we explore thoughts, ideas, feelings, behaviours and interpersonal patterns that cause us to feel "stuck" in life.

*Accepting new clients* Life can be overwhelming and with challenges. I have 20+ years of experience working in mental health settings at various hospitals and clinics in the GTA. Making the decision to look into counselling or therapy can feel uncomfortable and intimidating at times. It's important to find a therapist with whom you feel comfortable. Together we will assess your current situation and the challenges you may be facing, brainstorm and examine the changes you would like to make. I will support you in establishing your goals, and create an intervention plan based on your strengths to support changes.

Developing self-awareness — what’s important to you, your unique strengths and resources, and the ways in which you may hold yourself back — is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. When faced with life’s inevitable challenges, self-awareness is like a compass, helping you find your true north and live your best, most authentic life. My role is to create a safe space in which we identify your unique strengths, explore how you limit yourself, and help you to thrive. I ask curious, thoughtful questions to help you make sense of your challenges and find a way forward that is consistent with your values and your true self.

I am so glad that you are contemplating the start of a 'therapeutic journey' as life can sometimes feel overwhelming and difficult to manage on your own. I know it takes ‘courage’ to reach out for support, and I understand that we sometimes need a 'place' to share our burdens. I also recognize that it can be ‘scary’ to seek help, but my practice includes a ‘non-traditional’ holistic ‘Christian & Biblical Perspective’, where we can work together to reach your full potential as a child of 'God'. Contact me, as it would be my privilege to work with you, during this time in your life. So let's get started.

I believe one of the bravest things you can do is to begin to understand your own story. Many people see therapy as a waste of time, and some people see it as an opportunity to try a new way to heal. I can promise you that I’m as real as it gets. I want the best outcome for my clients; I want to help you believe in yourself and learn how to remove the negative thoughts that have kept you in bondage. This experience will be truthful, new, and uncomfortable at times but not painful. The healing starts when you’re ready to walk away from trauma, depression, confusion, anxiety, insecurities, self-hate etc. I’m waiting to hear from you.

When we are struggling to manage life challenges, our ability to cope can become strained. Such stressors can affect our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in unhealthy ways. They can also show up as frustration, irritability, and/or anger. Exploring relevant past experiences, with skillful therapeutic interventions, I support individuals, couples, and families to understand what is happening for them in the present. Believing that the client is the expert in their lives, I also help people to develop care plans intended to challenge unhelpful ways of functioning in their world while restoring feelings of happiness and hopefulness.

How can I find a therapist in L6W?

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
