We often read, “The answer lies within.” This can be frustrating for some because if it were true, then why see a therapist? Because I believe that while the answer does lie within you, it is buried under other parts of you: the “I shoulds,” the “I shouldn’ts,” the “I can’ts,” “the what ifs,” and generally, the anger, fear and stress that plagues us all. It is my goal as your therapist to harmonize the different parts of you by offering you a safe, supportive, compassionate environment where you can explore all that makes you, you. Together, we will create concrete steps to alleviate your suffering.

Adolescence is an exciting and sometimes difficult time in the young person life. As they grow and mature they develop a deeper understanding of themselves, friends, family and the world around them. In individual therapy, with adolescents, we provide a safe and relaxed environment for the young person to explore who they are. We walk with them as they strive towards the person they want to be in their journey to adulthood.

In this high-paced world, people don’t take the time to sit and talk things through – especially their problems. I’m a strong believer in the importance of talking through your problems in order to process them and gain an understanding of not only your challenges, but also what’s important to you, your strengths, and your goals. I balance my approach of processing through dialogue with my love for concrete, practical interventions and strategies. My goal as your therapist is always to provide a non-judgemental space for you to explore your difficulties while also providing practical strategies to meet your needs.

When we’re caught in the struggle we can feel hopeless. We may notice things that use to help aren’t helping. We may have lost motivation to try, as a result of this. It’s common to get caught in the suggestions of others, or online searching for something that may help. We may not know where to start but know, we don’t want to keep feeling/thinking/living as is. Therapy services can help us find a starting point, then develop a plan and act on making change, all while supported by a regulated professional in the field.

I know that it is hard to reach out for help. Most people feel like they should be able to handle life's challenges on their own. We are an intensely social species, however, and rely on others every day for our survival. Reaching out for help to a therapist during a challenging time in your life is the smart thing to do. Get the help and support you need to get through life's many challenges, whether you are struggling with anxiety or depression, going through a divorce or separation, or worrying about your children.

My mission is to support and empower clients on their journey towards growth and healing. I am committed to promoting a safe, open, and non-judgmental space to deconstruct what you are feeling, what you have experienced, and your current situation. I strive to build a trusting therapeutic relationship with my clients through empathy, authenticity, and collaboration. I recognize that there is no “one size fits all” approach to therapy, and as such, I aim to tailor sessions based on your unique individual experiences and needs.

Life can be hard sometimes and can feel even harder when we think we have to do it alone or “be strong”. Vulnerability takes courage. Let us witness that courage, and support you through challenging times. Together we can learn to find balance, tolerate that which is intolerable, and learn to co-exist with any and all our emotions. At J.A.G. Village we know grief, mourning, and bereavement very well. We know that it can be very disorientating. Our role is to help you navigate this new terrain while also supporting and bearing witness to the experiences you have along the way.

How can I find a therapist in L1C?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
