I am a doctoral psychologist and have worked in outpatient primary care, oncological, counselling, and psychiatric settings. My approach is depth oriented—an exploration of the roots underlying symptoms, habitual behaviours, and problems of living. I aim not only to facilitate symptom relief, but growth, self-discovery, and a sense of meaning. I draw on psychodynamic (e.g., Jungian, AEDP, IFS), transpersonal, and existential-humanistic theory. I tend to work with stress and trauma; loss and grief; cancer, illness, and existential anxiety; life-transitions and adjustment issues; and psychedelics and spirituality.
I am an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, and an Associate Faculty member of St. Stephen's College, at the University of Alberta. I have taught a wide range of courses in the field of psychology, and currently teach graduate level courses on Psychopathology and Psychedelics, Spirituality, and Mental Health.
The research literature on psychotherapy is clear: the key predictor of success is not a certain theory or technique, but the therapeutic relationship itself.
