Kate Best earned her Master of Science in Social Work degree at Columbia University in New York City. Her training has focused on mental health and addictions treatment in a multitude of settings. Upon completion of her Masters Degree, Kate became a founding clinician at a dual diagnosis treatment centre in New York City. Upon returning to Toronto, Kate worked for a number of years as an addictions clinician at a substance abuse treatment centre where she specialized in the treatment of individuals, groups, couples, and families struggling with addiction and other mental health issues. Kate has been in private practice since 2014.
Kate is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. She specializes in goal-oriented counseling that focuses on eliciting behavioural change and resolving ambivalence.
Pulling from her training in a multitude of therapeutic techniques, Kate meets her clients where they are, and joins them in their growth process. The focus of treatment is to help individuals define where they want to go, and to collaboratively develop a roadmap to get there.
