Therapy can lead to shifting and changing, creating a sense of ease in your life to overcome barriers that have been holding you back. Do you tend to worry daily about many things? Are you afraid of making a mistake or feeling embarrassed when you are in social situations? Do you have intrusive thoughts that lead to ritualistic behaviour? Do you struggle with panic attacks? Do you have low energy and motivation to do things in your life? Are you feeling down a lot? Has trauma resulted in a cycle of fear, shame, intrusive memories and avoidance? Please reach out if any of these sound like you.

My passion is to walk with people on their journey towards a life that is rich and meaningful. While we can't change painful experiences from the past, we can work together towards better understanding and resolution of them in the present. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will explore and challenge long-standing behaviour patterns and/or negative perceptions which may be problamatic. Whether you are looking for extra support or guidance through a particular challenge or you're just ready to move in a new direction, I will work with you towards achieving your goals.

Welcome! I specialize in substance use, mental health and life issues. I work with clients all along the substance use spectrum to modify or stop problematic use and with those that are in recovery but want help addressing other issues. I also assist family members that have been impacted by a loved ones substance use. In addition, I help clients who have issues with depression, anxiety, experienced trauma, abusive relationships or other life issues. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) who is deeply rooted in the community. I volunteer as a coach and have had over 12 years experience working in Ottawa as a career firefighter. My goal is to be supportive and understanding, helping people grow by increasing self-compassion and challenging themselves to find solutions. I integrate several counselling theories and strategies and tailor my approaches to meet people’s individual needs. I am open to seeing anyone over 18 needing therapy, though with my experiences working as a firefighter I have a keen interest in supporting first responders

We are not neurologically hardwired to figure out difficult emotions on our own. Taking the step to slow down and explore personal challenges can be overwhelming – but with therapy, it can be transformative. Therapy is a space to be heard while feeling psychologically safe. It is the opportunity for collaborative discussion and offers a space for curiosity. This leads to self-growth and lasting change as we learn to better cultivate meaningful connections with ourselves and others.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
