During my time working in the social service industry, I have come to understand the barriers people face in seeking help with their mental health. Whether it be difficult life circumstances or coping with persistent negative emotions, it may feel overwhelming knowing where and how to start. Sometimes we may even want to withdraw or find other ways to cope that bring us temporary relief, but contribute the issues at hand. Thinking about addressing these issues may cause fear or discomfort, however it is only when we address our pain that we can then start to heal. I am here to help you through that process.

All too often, when we experience painful thoughts, feelings or sensations we respond in ways that are self-defeating and self-destructive. Over time, these habitual response patterns can manifest in a variety of ways such as anxiety, depression, phobias, disordered eating or addiction. Psychotherapy can help you with the immediate problem or situation you are facing. More importantly, it can help you gain insight as to the root cause of your emotional pain, to come to a place of self-acceptance and self-compassion, and to adopt positive coping skills in order to live a more engaged and meaningful life.

**Accepting clients for waitlist only at this time.** Your life has not turned out like you'd imagined. Having children was an inevitable, unquestioned part of your plan. Perhaps you've been trying for years and are now grappling with the idea of ending the TTC journey without a baby. Maybe you never got the chance to try because of life circumstances or health. Perhaps you've been dealing with the profound grief that comes with miscarriage or perinatal loss. This new reality likely seems impossible to believe, let alone accept. It is difficult to figure out how to move forward and if a life of meaning without children is possible.

Welcome! Reaching out for support isn’t easy and it takes courage to open ourselves up to our vulnerabilities. It’s easy to become disconnected from ourselves and those we love. We can experience anxious or worrisome thoughts that we can’t seem to turn off, making our moods shift. Maybe there is a reason for this or maybe you’re looking to better understand your past experiences, relationships and traumas and how those have influenced your current relationship patterns and behaviors. Perhaps you’re experiencing anxiety and stress related to your relationships. Either way, I’m here to support you.

I have faced struggles, so I want to give back and help others feel less alone. I want to provide a safe and understanding environment for people to express themselves freely. I utilize various techniques when working with clients, using an integrative approach. I am open to seeing clients struggling with anxiety, addictions, body image/self-esteem issues, depression, and trauma. I encourage clients to explore their issues at their own pace, genuinely meeting them where they are. Everyone deserves a chance to heal from things they have not spoken about.

I understand that most likely you have been trying your best and pretending that life is OKAY, but now the heaviness of putting on a brave face is getting you down. You have tried a few things ( reading books, maybe attending therapy) but you find yourself repeating the same old habits of ignoring and pushing down your feelings. Your unresolved TRAUMA is making all your decisions right now. Most likely, most of the time, your trauma leaves you feeling quite unsafe in your body ( panic attacks, low mood, etc). You DO NOT want to feel like this anymore but you are also a little nervous about whether therapy can "really work"?

Life is nothing short of amazing. It's amazing how much we can go through and live to tell about it. It's amazing how fast kids grow up and time flies, how angry a co-worker can make you, how much compassion we can seem to have for others when we struggle to offer any to ourselves. It's amazing how much we put on our plates when all we need is to rest. It's amazing how much we can long for understanding and connection and how much opportunity can be missed right in front of our eyes. It's amazing how short life is. It's also amazing how much we can learn in the time we have, and how little steps can amount to such massive change.

How can I find a therapist in K6V?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
