I see individuals in therapy for a variety of concerns such as: anxiety, adult ADHD, relationship issues, family dynamics, parenting, self-esteem & climate anxiety. In sessions, I aim to provide a safe, compassionate, non-judgemental space where you can explore your feelings, thoughts, and behaviours at your own pace. I help clients gain clarity about the challenges they are facing, find a healthy sense of balance, and learn strategies to cope more effectively. I like to collaboratively approach problems and help you find creative solutions that fit your values.

As a psychotherapist my role is to provide both individuals and couples with an encouraging and supportive space. My approach is founded on the knowledge that transformational change can only come from within. Every client that walks through my door has insight into their own healing process, it is just clouded by the challenges they are facing. My role is to cultivate and strengthen one’s capacity to access intrinsic needs, beliefs, and identity while acknowledging the courage and resiliency in making the choice to do so. I aim to promote a more balanced way of relating to oneself and others during times of hardship.

Blended families and individuals and families created through adoption, fostering and donor-assisted reproduction have unique histories and experiences which differ from families created through birth alone. All have experienced losses and the trauma of broken birth bonds. These experiences can provoke conscious or unconscious feelings such as grief, anger and shame which have significant impacts on self-value, behaviours, relationships and intimacy. Accessing, understanding & grieving are necessary before personal change and deeper interpersonal connections can be made.

Accepting clients with daytime availability! I have always been curious about what makes a person who they are. I believe that we all have wounds from our past, whether it be from relationships or experiences, that have shaped who we are, how we relate and how we view our world. Although our past may shape us, I believe making connections from our past to our present allows us to heal and become the person we aspire to be. The healing occurs in the present when we change our ways of relating to the self and to the world.

I believe most of our suffering is the result of what we come to believe about ourselves and/or the world as a result of negative experiences. Every decision we make is, to some degree, based on what we hold as fundamental truths about ourselves and the world. If we alter those negative self-beliefs, everything changes. I help you access your inner wisdom and healing abilities to turn anxiety into peace, overwhelm into self-empowerment, burnout into joyful engagement, and self-doubt into self-love. Instead of simply learning strategies to manage symptoms, we work together towards eliminating the root cause of the distress.

Are you suffering from anxiety right now? Living in constant threat about what may come in the future - or getting lost in the traumas of the past? You are not alone! The clients I see often tell me “I feel my mind has no off switch," As they gradually lose control over their feelings, relationships and actions. Coping strategies may no longer be working for you. Communicating with your partner is hard. You replay arguments over and over. You feel criticized by your partner and do not feel heard. The idea of voicing your needs feels overwhelming and frustrating. As time has passed, talking to your partner has become minimal. There is less sharing of your feelings due to feelings of disappointment of not being heard. Your partner and you feel disconnected and lack communication. You are exhausted at working so hard to have a genuine relationship and it feels like nothing is working. What you want is to feel you can confide in your partner, feel loved, feel heard and supported.

Everyone - regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or social standing - deserves competent, kind, and compassionate care. As the Covid situation shifts and changes, the life challenges facing younger, middle-aged and older adults, including transitions, relationships, loneliness, body image, sexuality issues, and concerns around meaning and purpose, to name a few, remain. I have significant life and career experience as a teacher and Guidance Counsellor working with adolescents, and as an administrator and coach working with adults and teams. I am eager to meet you wherever you are along your life journey.

I specialize in therapy for narcissistic abuse! Do you feel confused, doubt yourself and question your needs? Do you feel dismissed, invalidated, and uncared for in one or more of your important relationships? Are your feelings negated, minimized and you make yourself small to accommodate the other person’s unreasonable demands? You may be on the receiving end of a narcissistic abuse. Narcissistic abuse can lead to anxiety, depression and pervasive feelings of shame and self blame. Misuse of substances is often a maladaptive coping mechanism in the attempt to deal with constant emotional abuse, gaslighting and manipulation.

Grief counselling is my specialty. The death of a loved one is so hard and you don't have to grieve alone. I work collaboratively, at the clients pace, providing a safe non-judgmental space for clients to be heard and to support them in drawing upon their own strengths in order to mourn well. My professional experiences stem from working as a Social Worker and a Therapist for over 25 years in hospice palliative care, community organizations, and in private practice. I work with both adults and children (children up to the age of 11). I also provide counselling for those caring for a loved one at the end of life.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
