Life is a struggle these days as we try to recover from a deadly pandemic. Is therapy the right thing? Do you have trouble dealing with your emotions or do you struggle with stress, depression, anxiety, panic. Do you feel isolated or are you worrying more than others. I use various approaches in my treatment such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness, Spiritual health therapy. Often we want to talk to someone, who can help us, move past the struggles and difficulties hindering you, from moving forward ,help is here , don't hesitate to reach out for therapy.

Are you an up and coming athlete looking to stay on top of your game? How are you handling the stressors of life, training, performance and school/work. Are you recovering from an injury? Training to get back in the game? Are you a veteran athlete planning the final quarter of your career? These are all challenging times that can breed stress, anxiety, depression and other barriers to a balanced life. Similar to athletes, executives and front line workers are faced with similar challenges of workplace execution, perfectionism and high paced, competitive work lives. I have a track record of success working with people just like you.

I work with children and families. I believe in the importance of good mental health for even the youngest members of our society and I am passionate about seeing families become stronger together. Young people can have big problems too! Anxiety, depression, trauma and grief are all things that impact young and old. I am here to help young people navigate these life challenges; I have studied child development and bring this knowledge into sessions to help kiddos in an age-appropriate way that respects who they are as individuals and how their brains are wired to operate.

Life isn’t meant to be lived in constant struggle—yet many people find themselves overwhelmed, burnt out, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve them. As a Social Worker with over 20 years of experience, I’ve seen how even the most difficult moments can shift into clarity, peace, and self-acceptance with the right support.

Hi there! Are you contemplating hiring a therapist? You're probably suffering and wondering who to trust. I get that, and I've been there too. When I look for a therapist, I want to make sure that they believe in their approach, and that there's a strong evidence-basis for it. That's true for my approaches - and they're an integral part of my life now too since finding them. I'm happy to share as we get aware, mindful, self-compassionate, values-connected, and committed to a life that matters.

Whether it's you, or someone close to you, most of us have struggled through difficult times, had bouts of low mood, and experienced loss or trauma in our life.  In this busy fast-paced world, it's not uncommon to put our needs and emotional health aside; this works for a while, until it doesn't! Using strategies from various models of therapy, I work from an inclusive, trauma-informed, strengths-based approach to assist individuals in making effective life change, learning new skills, and healing from past painful life experiences including significant  trauma.

Effective relationships are central to our well-being. When our relationships are not going well, we can become lonely and isolated, and our mental health suffers. Seeking professional help to look at how we function in our relationships and the impact that they have on us and we on them, can open possibilities for growth. By recognizing the present-day impact of past events, by focusing on our goals for the future, and by changing unhelpful thinking patterns, we can find a path to improved relationships and achieve better mental health.

It's heartbreaking to watch your child or teen struggle. As a parent or guardian, you know your child best, and can clearly see when they are hurting. Luckily, they have shared a little about their experience, but you still feel uncertain about their needs- powerless to do anything to help them. It just feels like things will never change. They have so much potential, and you would hate to see them miss it.

Neuroshaping is an application of the science of neuroplasticity. It can be defined as the use of methods that have demonstrable and lasting impact on the brain (and the nervous system in general) with the purpose of increasing desired experiences, states, and skills. Neuroshaping methods include psychotherapy, meditation, biofeedback, and neurofeedback. Our team employs all of these methods with a special emphasis on biofeedback and neurofeedback, which are particularly well-suited to neurodivergent individuals (e.g., ADHD, ASD) and to those with trauma and post-concussion syndrome.

Hi there! My name is Kalyssa. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in a residential facility supporting adults with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and addiction. Being part of that work showed me just how life-changing it can be to feel truly understood by the right therapist. I now work with children, adolescents, and adults, using play-based therapy with children and integrative, trauma-informed approaches with teens and adults. If you’re looking for a therapist you don’t have to filter yourself around, I may be a great fit.

In Motion Psychotherapy is a locally based counselling practice offering practical, down-to-earth support for individuals, families, and couples, navigating life’s challenges. Many people seek therapy not because something is “wrong,” but because they feel stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or worn down from carrying too much on their own. At In Motion Psychotherapy, the focus is on creating a safe, respectful space, where people can slow things down, make sense of what’s happening, and move forward at a pace that feels manageable.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
