Dr. Irving is a clinical psychologist whose practice is focused on the prevention and treatment of workplace burnout, cognitive behavioural therapy for depression and anxiety and mindfulness-based interventions. She completed a Ph.D. at McGill University studying burnout in physicians in the Faculty of Medicine’s Programs in Whole Person Care. Her psychology residency at Penn Medical and Princeton Medical Centres included training in mood and anxiety disorders (PTSD, social anxiety, generalized anxiety). She then held a clinical/research postdoctoral fellowship in CBT Clinic at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (2011-2013).
Dr. Irving is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Departments of Psychiatry and Psychology at the University of Toronto and a peer-revied author. Her research has focused on understanding the mechanisms of change in mindfulness-based therapies, prevention of burnout and depressive relapse, and emerging therapeutic treatments for co-occurring disorders.
Dr. Irving enjoys working with students and trainees and has taught workshops on CBT, burnout prevention in health care, and addictions treatment at health centres across Canada and in the United States. She has an interest in working with individuals in professions that are considered high-risk for burnout and adults who have a recent diagnosis of ADHD.
