There are increasing psychological problems which do not meet traditional psychiatric disorders but concern developmental 'family-of-origin' attachment dynamics, impacting adult functioning-regarding work, intimacy and creativity. Although external factors are often rather 'real' and painful- self justification, rationalization and avoidance/denial often defeat heartfelt goals, dreams, desires and unique potential regarding school/work, intimacy, creativity and future possibilities.
Psychotherapy optimally reclaims parts of the authentic self which have been lost, damaged-hurt and have gone "underground'' due to painful emotional experiences. Along with a compassionate and attuned relationship, psychotherapy provides the opportunity to mindfully explore and rediscover aspects of the original self- its full creative potential and adaptation to life's challenging opportunities.
