I work with individuals and couples on a variety of issues related to mental health, addictions, sex addiction, marriage and couple conflict as well as trauma. I specialize in helping couples cultivate healthier relationships, as well as assisting individuals to overcome their addictive behaviour and mindset. My experience includes: in-patient and out-patient care in a treatment center setting, as well as agency and private practice work.
As a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), my specialization is treating those impacted by sex addiction. While I also work with couples who don't face addiction issues, my specialization is in: sex and love addiction, pornography addiction, partner betrayal & compulsive sexual behaviour. I utilize Patrick Carnes’ model “Facing the Shadows”.
Together, we explore the underlying causes of the addiction and employ strategies to manage present emotions, triggers, and circumstances; with the goal to prevent relapse, maintain sobriety, protect the family and other relationships. This 8-week virtual group is developed from the workbook "Help. Her. Heal" by Carol Juergensen Sheets. It is designed for men who struggle with sex addiction and/or who have had extra-marital affairs. It is a step-by-step guide to learn how to have empathy towards the hurt your partner is experiencing. Topics will include: Understanding the impact of the betrayal, learning how to communicate with empathy, and how to help your partner manage triggers. Start date: May 7, 2024.
