My name is Dr. Janet Haynes, and I would like to share a bit of who I am as a woman, a mother, and a therapist. I became a therapist because I was once a client. I share this because I come from a cultural context in which mental health concerns are often minimized and framed as matters of willpower or personal endurance. Individuals are encouraged to remain silent rather than seek support from a therapist or counsellor, leading many to internalize long term emotional, psychological, and physical distress. This silence is often compounded by experiences of discrimination, family conflict, workplace harm, and systemic inequities.
I work to challenge and transform this culture of silence because no one should feel obligated to endure adversity alone or remain silent about abuse, violence, oppression, or injustice. As a feminist, my therapeutic approach is trauma informed, person-centered, culturally responsive, and grounded in evidence-based practice.
Your story is honoured, your dignity is protected, and your lived experiences are met with compassion and cultural understanding. This is a space where silence can soften, where your voice can emerge safely, and your truth can be spoken without fear or judgement. If you are ready to take a step towards healing and recovery, I invite you to connect with me.
