Dr. Heney is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Ottawa, Ontario, with both a Ph.D. in Psychology and a Masters in Social Work. Her approach centres on promoting personal growth and empowerment. She works collaboratively with clients to establish an effective therapeutic program that helps them improve their sense of well-being and reach their life goals. With couples, Dr. Heney works on bringing partners from conflict to mutual respect, understanding, and appreciation.
In addition to her private practice, Dr. Heney consults in a variety of settings, and has been called as an expert witness in several inquests and legal proceedings to testify on issues related to adult survivors of child abuse.
Dr. Heney is well known as a public speaker and educator. She conducts workshops and seminars for mental health workers and clinicians on a variety of topics, including: compassion fatigue, boundaries, working with survivors of child abuse, self-injurious behaviour, suicide intervention, dealing with violent clients, and women’s violence.
