I practice trauma-informed therapy. I believe non-judgmental acceptance & validation are key in supporting a client on their unique healing journey. Problems have causes that need to be examined. There are reasons we react and respond the way we do. I work with trauma and anxiety disorders including trauma from past abuse; grief and loss; challenges with family dynamics; and life transitions (divorce, empty nest, retirement). I do NOT work with addictions NOR in a consulting capacity for legal or employment requirements (eg: documentation for child custody issues, high conflict separation/divorce, or WCB/other benefit claims).
Many of my clients present with anxiety, reactivity, and other symptoms related to trauma. I believe that feeling overwhelmed or depressed is not a sign of weakness and intense reactivity is a physiological symptom resulting from stress and trauma. I believe the symptoms of trauma injuries are indications that our bodies and minds are attempting to heal.
Any of us can experience situations in our life, often not of our own creation that challenge us. Solutions can be shorter or longer term. The end goal is to support the client managing overwhelming and problematic automatic physiological and emotional reactions that are common post-trauma. Psycho-education is an important part of most therapy sessions.
