Are you trying to figure out how to move forward after having your relationship end or discovering your partner's emotional or physical betrayal? My team at Lost & Found Counselling specializes in betrayal trauma recovery. Betrayal trauma is very real and can occur when the sense of safety and security in a relationship is broken due to cheating, unexpected ending of the partnership, abuse and/or lies. Experiencing this type of trauma can completely shake our beliefs about ourselves, about others, and about the world around us. This can feel lonely, scary, overwhelming and confusing.

The issues I work with include communication, invalidation, reactivity, resentment, finances, intimacy, infidelity, trust, parenting, and power struggles.
Now offering weekend intensives: 4-6 hour sessions to deep-dive into your relationship and make lasting change. Intimate relationships require an investment of time, care, commitment, and trust, as well as a willingness to be vulnerable. When difficulties do arise, experienced support and guidance can make a significant difference. As a relationship-focused counsellor, my goal is to provide a safe space for you and your partner to deeply understand - and begin shifting - your interpersonal dynamics in order to build a capacity for greater emotional freedom and connection.

Issues that we can work through together, include: sexual anxiety, shame and guilt, desire, sexual compulsivity, loneliness, infidelity, and dating challenges.
My name is Veronica and I am a Registered Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia. I hold a Doctorate of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology and a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology (MCP). In the past, I have worked directly with individuals experiencing a range of diverse issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma and sexuality-based issues. Most commonly, I witnessed many of those individuals feeling pain and suffering alone. Intimacy and sexuality can be difficult to discuss and can impact your mental health and well-being.

This can be an unpredictable world. We live in constant flux in the full spectrum of what this, at times wrenching and often beautiful, life has to offer; birth, death and everything in between. Transitions, diagnoses and unexpected or unwelcomed changes can drain energy, capacity, and our holistic ability to function. My desire is that your energy isn’t being spent internally battling what is, mourning what isn’t and pushing beyond your own capacity.

By addressing troubling thoughts and feelings, self-sabotaging behaviors, and traumas, life can be made more manageable, productive, and fulfilling. Feelings such as grief, shame, anxiety, sadness, and anger often signal that something needs to change. Listening to and working with these feelings—some that consume us and others that gently nudge us—can move us forward. Through this, we sometimes discover that our everyday dilemmas are part of larger patterns waiting to be resolved as a whole.

People with ADHD are bright, empathetic, and creative. We often struggle with harnessing our uniquely wired brains to fit into a world built for neurotypicals. We know we are capable of so much more, but we're functioning well under that capacity. Examples of the issues we experience include time management, organization, remembering things and motivating ourselves to do things. Other forms of mental illness may accompany our ADHD. However, with some support, we can improve our systems for functioning in ways that are actually fun. We can also improve our intimate relationships, which makes life better all-round.

My approach with clients is to provide a safe and non-judgemental space to explore life challenges and work toward better functioning. I draw on different approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy, solution focused therapy and polvagal informed theory in order to customize the counselling experience to the unique needs of the client. My practice is centred around values of curiosity and respect for the client’s lived experience, with a focus on creating more self compassion and internal safety. I believe that we can access internal strengths that foster improved wellbeing through increased awareness and intentional practice.

Infidelity Counsellors

How does therapy for infidelity work?

A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.

How long does therapy for infidelity take?

Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.

How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?

When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.

How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?

Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
