It is informed by humanistic, introspective, narrative, and psychodynamic therapies.
I appreciate that the hardest part of this journey is finding “your person.” Someone that you can trust will show up and be there for you . A person that makes you feel safe, heard, and accepted unconditionally. No matter what you are going through. To make starting as comfortable as possible, I provide a non-judgmental space for you to come in and be as open (and authentic) as you need to be. Completely free to express and uncover all your unconscious thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Allowing you to move past the deep layers of your trauma, fear, and pain. To a place where you can explore the deepest parts of who you truly are.

My approach has been described as warm, sensitive, compassionate, accepting and playful, as well as humanistic, trauma-informed, client-centered, strengths-based, and experiential.
As we go through difficult experiences, I believe that there is comfort in not being alone. I believe that a connection with another person can provide an opportunity to feel safe as we explore unknown parts of our lives. I am hopeful and believe that there are possibilities that are here to be uncovered in each of us. I bring generosity of spirit into my work and will meet you where you are at in your process and we will move forward in a way that feels right for you. I am open to sitting with whatever it is that you are experiencing, including those places that may feel scary, painful or overwhelming.

In my practice, I am integrative in my approach, which largely draws upon theory from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Humanistic Psychology, and Psychodynamic Therapy.
I offer a warm, curious, and judgment-free space for helping you untangle your struggles through a lens of compassion and curiosity. Our work together is in the service of freeing up space to clarify what’s important to you and how you want to go through life with a stronger sense of agency and intentionality. I hold a deep interest and respect for the people that I work with, and my therapeutic style can be described as authentic, compassionate, and engaged. If you are feeling lost, heartbroken, anxious, or simply need a space to recenter, I would be honoured to join you on your journey.

With a culturally responsive and trauma-focused lens, I take an integrative approach to therapy by drawing on psychodynamic and humanistic frameworks that've been proven effective.
Starting therapy can feel like embarking on a journey into uncharted territory. It's confronting overwhelming challenges like the persistent weight of anxiety, the pervasive cloud of depression, the tension of stress, or the intricate interplay of life’s multifaceted issues that often drives us to seek therapeutic support. Making the decision to start therapy marks a pivotal moment in the pursuit of self-discovery and healing. Entering therapy is a testament to resilience. It's about bravely confronting internal struggles with the hope of finding relief, understanding, and ultimately, positive change.

It is based on an extension of logotherapy and integration of other modalities, such as CBT, humanistic, and positive psychotherapies.
My ideal client is willing to engage in self-reflection, explore the deeper existential issues related to his/her predicament, and discover the pathways of actualizing his/her potential and dream. Such a client can be a new college graduate struggling for a better understanding of her self-identity or a senior questioning his life's meaning. The issues I am best suited to addressing are both the dark sides of the human condition-such as depression, anxiety, anger, loss, suffering, and death-and the bright sides of personal growth and flourishing.

I am trained in emotion-focused, cognitive-behavioural, humanistic, DBT, and mindfulness approaches.
As a psychologist, I work with change. Change may involve shifts in awareness, attitude, behaviour, goals, acceptance, or coping strategies that will enhance your quality of life and well-being. Many obstacles can prevent us from living a satisfying life. These could be a history of trauma, invalidating relationships, habits that no longer serve us, or environments that may hinder our psychological growth. I can help you identify obstacles to your quality of life, develop strategies to tackle them, and set goals to increase and maintain your well-being.

I always approach my clients in with an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, harm reduction framework. What does that mean? It means that I will always ask "what happened to you?" instead of asking "what's wrong with you?". It also means that I will always respect you as the expert in your own life. Finally, it means that I believe that everyone does their very best to survive and thrive each day–even on the days that we can't see any hope. I am here to be with you, even through the darkest of days, and help you find inspiration and hope within yourself.

If you have trouble completing tasks, are disorganized, and have a busy mind, you are showing signs of attentional difficulties. You may also notice difficulties with relationships, work, academics, understanding, and memory. We provide assessments (ADHD, autism, psychoeducational, Return to work, personality, and psychodiagnostic). Validated questionnaires are used to identify mental health symptoms and assess emotional and intellectual functioning.

It's not just you, life HAS gotten harder in the last few years. If you've been powering through, staying strong and carrying on, but now you're barely getting by and you're tired of feeling like you're not really living your life, it might be time for outside support. The benefit of therapy is that it's a time where you get to focus on yourself, to look at your life, and to get an outside perspective on how it could be different. You don't have to just endure, with the right support, you can heal from the past, and move forward towards a better future.

Humanistic Counsellors

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualisation and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioural therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
