My foundation is humanistic, as I know what it is like to face challenges and struggles, and the overcoming of them.
Do you feel stuck? Are you overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, or relationship issues? Uncomfortable symptoms and stress can often lead us to pause and re-evaluate our needs, or to go inward and connect with a deeper sense of ourselves. As humans we heal and grow best when we work together towards solutions and change, and counselling and psychotherapy can offer you the space to pause, reflect, and find solutions in moving forward from your current stressors by cultivating your path to True Care.

In my practice, I strive to provide a safe and supportive environment in which my clients can work toward their goals. I employ evidence-based methods, meaning that I integrate current research findings with my clinical expertise to determine the most effective course of therapy. While my theoretical orientation is largely cognitive-behavioral (CBT), I also draw on solution-focussed, experiential, and humanistic approaches. My main areas of expertise include depression, anxiety problems, stress management, and anger management.

Using a humanistic, person-centred, strength-based approach, I will help you to find your centre again.
The truth is, you have all the skills you need to find contentment. However, there are some moments in life when we can barely tread water. Your calm might be lost, and some collaborative support is needed to rebuild and rediscover routes through your challenges. It's okay. You do not have to navigate it alone. I intend to guide you to rediscover your strengths. My approach is inviting, open, inclusive, respectful, caring, and genuine. Together, we will go on a journey back to you feeling empowered while plotting various trails forward with purpose, with me as your ever-present, supportive, caring guide.

I'm a graduate of the Ontario Psychotherapy and Counseling Program and a Registered Psychotherapist. My ambition is to offer a humanistic approach in a psychodynamic setting, with a focus on a client-centred, relational, and a conversational model, as well as providing a safe space where you, the client, and I can work together to achieve therapeutic goals. As part of a collaborative approach to therapy, I feel this process of working with clients can bring about an understanding of what they have been experiencing, describe particular moments that may have led them to this point, and support a new self-structure.

Living in a world that demands perfection is not easy. It can be extremely difficult and unforgiving to us human beings. When we experience negative emotions there is something deeper that is lurking beneath the surface. I am a humanistic therapist who puts the client's needs first. Even if the client is unsure of what they need, this will be part of the journey to discover. I do not adhere to a "one-size-fits-all" approach to therapy as every individual is unique and deserves to be heard for who they are.

Talk therapy will be approached from an existential-humanistic lens to support acceptance and change.
Are you afraid of feeling judged or misunderstood? My lived experience with addiction and mental health disorders brings a sense of allyship within the therapeutic setting. I believe that addiction is not the problem, instead, the problem is the problem. We will work together to understand the deeper challenges causing situational distress which can often result in maladaptive behaviours. Addiction can be in the form of substance use; or addiction to people, places or things. In addition to working privately, I provide psychotherapy for Addiction Rehab Toronto.

I work with individuals and couples using multiple approaches including Psychoanalytic, Humanistic and some Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) theories.
Accepting New Clients. When you find yourself going through a life transition, feeling anxious or depressed, or grieving a loss, you might feel confused and overwhelmed. Often our thoughts and feelings get tangled with expectations leaving us unsure about how to move forward in our lives. Together we will explore what is working for you and what parts of your self are being challenged. By developing greater self-awareness and practicing self-acceptance, you will begin to discover new ways to grow and strengthen as a person. When you know yourself better you can begin to intercept unhealthy patterns of living as they emerge.

In our lives, we often find ourselves stuck. We find it difficult to stop thinking, feeling, or behaving in ways that are no longer useful. Our interpretations of past experiences, beliefs about ourselves, others and the world, can sometimes hold us back from enjoying the present and imagining a better future. We want things to change but are uncertain how to change them. We need time, space, and guidance to transform ourselves and forge a new path. As a psychotherapist, I help facilitate your journey and guide you towards your personal goals by empowering you to remove emotional and psychological roadblocks.

Humanistic Counsellors

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualisation and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioural therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
