My approach to care involves an integrative/humanistic approach while using a variety of evidence-based practices including Family Based Treatment for Anorexia/Bulimia (FBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
I focus on children, teenagers and young adults struggling with eating disorders/disordered eating, body image, anxiety, and perfectionism. I promote wellness beyond weight and address related social justice issues by approaching care from a Health at Every Size theoretical lens. Intrusive thoughts related to food, weight, and self-image can be overwhelming and by using a collaborative approach to discover self-compassion, food freedom, body acceptance, and self-confidence, patients can feel empowered.

I utilize a flexible, integrative approach, viewing the client as the expert of their lived experiences, using strategies from strengths-based, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, experiential, somatic, and Gottman method therapy models.
I bring empathic, and knowledgeable support to individuals and couples across the perinatal period, maintaining engagement with professional development in the treatment of perinatal-related distress. Whether you are experiencing challenges related to fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, parenting, relationships, and/or life transitions, I hold a deep appreciation for how profound and transformative the perinatal period can be for individuals, partners, and families.

I work with individuals and couples using multiple approaches including Psychoanalytic, Humanistic and some Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) theories.
Accepting New Clients. When you find yourself going through a life transition, feeling anxious or depressed, or grieving a loss, you might feel confused and overwhelmed. Often our thoughts and feelings get tangled with expectations leaving us unsure about how to move forward in our lives. Together we will explore what is working for you and what parts of your self are being challenged. By developing greater self-awareness and practicing self-acceptance, you will begin to discover new ways to grow and strengthen as a person. When you know yourself better you can begin to intercept unhealthy patterns of living as they emerge.

My orientation is humanistic, person-centered, and attachment-based, and I integrate elements of Humanistic Neuro-Linguistic Psychology and Mindful Self-Compassion.
Is your marriage in a crisis? Are you looking for support because you feel that you have done everything in your power to connect and be heard, and to no avail? Perhaps you are additionally overwhelmed as your beloved child is struggling at school, in the aftermath of a divorce or a move. Are you challenged with anxiety and depression and are looking for support to build your coping skills and get to the root cause of your challenges? Did you just move to Canada or are figuring out your way on your career path? Are you looking for premarital counseling? Are your arguments with your partner keeping you disconnected for days on end?

Do you wonder what it means to live a full life? Do you experience times when you are not sure of the direction of your life? Do we have incredible potential as human beings that we are not accessing? These questions may be worth exploring if you are experiencing anxiety, depression, or other symptoms. The state of our life at all levels is rarely explored in therapy. Often therapy targets part of the problem but not all of the problems.

Currently accepting new clients. Sometimes life is ruthless and leaves us with questions, unresolved feelings, regrets, or intrusive re-livings of past experiences. Trauma is life-changing, looks different for everyone, and can be even harder to talk about. You are not alone, and you don’t have to navigate this territory alone. Regardless of where you are in your life journey, one step forward is still progress. Together, we can help you move forward in whatever that might look like for you.

Whether your concern is of an individual or an interpersonal nature, involves a couple, family or other form/model of relationship, we can work together, through dialogue, to explore challenging situations and find opportunities for growth. My approach in therapy is client centered. Although I focus on the client(s) in the session, I keep in mind that every person is part of several larger systems. I maintain an awareness of systemic influences, and of power dynamics in relationships. I will work with you toward your goals. I am committed to being neutral and judgement free. I embrace diversity and human rights.

Hello! Let’s be honest, you’re probably here because you aren’t feeling great. Maybe you’re navigating the challenges of loneliness, shame, guilt, low self-esteem, or a lack of passion or purpose in your life. Maybe you’re struggling with confidence, self-criticism, or feeling “stuck”. Are the beliefs “I’m not good enough” or “I’m a failure” sounding familiar? I am committed to holding space for all your feelings, creating a supportive, non-judgmental environment for you to embrace your authenticity, explore and grow.

I am a psychologist working with adults and couples who also supervises other developing clinicians. Whether you are hoping to move forward from past wounds, learn new ways of being in the world, or deepen relationships, I would be honoured to be part of your journey directly or indirectly through supervision. I take the time to understand what's going on today within the larger context of your life and your goals. I feel this is an important first step in building a therapeutic relationship in which you feel safe, understood, and supported while doing the hard work of growing and changing.

Life is nothing short of amazing. It's amazing how much we can go through and live to tell about it. It's amazing how fast kids grow up and time flies, how angry a co-worker can make you, how much compassion we can seem to have for others when we struggle to offer any to ourselves. It's amazing how much we put on our plates when all we need is to rest. It's amazing how much we can long for understanding and connection and how much opportunity can be missed right in front of our eyes. It's amazing how short life is. It's also amazing how much we can learn in the time we have, and how little steps can amount to such massive change.

Accepting New Clients! I am an expert in the field of treating concerns surrounding sleep/insomnia. I have successful career experience working therapeutically with palliative patients and their caregivers to tackle grief, bereavement and caregiver burnout. I am also well renowned for working with relationship issues (using attachment theory), mood disorders (depression, anxiety), and dissociative disorders. Finally, I treat and work with self-esteem/worth, existential questions, burnout, life transitions, and other concerns. Yes that's a lot, but I just thinking helping people to heal is very neat, and so I have learned so much :).

Humanistic Counsellors

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualisation and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioural therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
