Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, self-esteem challenges, relationship problems, or body image difficulties, a culturally-safe and anti-oppressive therapist can help you heal, while always keeping in mind the impact of existing in multiple worlds, holding multiple identities, and living in a world that doesn't always accept you. A holistic, whole person, approach to therapy honours the connection between mind, body, spirit, and community. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to bring all parts of you to therapy without fear of being misunderstood or judged? It can be tough to find a therapist who really gets it.

Parenting is hard. With the ever-changing challenges of today’s world, and the unrealistic expectations of “perfect parenting”, it seems harder now than ever before. The world of parenting is full of competing opinions, voices, and perspectives. In reality, there is no “right” way to parent. You are the only expert when it comes to your child.

Do you experience anxiety or depression, or have you felt stuck in painful patterns of thoughts and behaviours? Has it been hard to regulate your feelings and emotions? Or perhaps you have found it difficult to experience more compassion and self-acceptance for your experiences? I use neurodiversity-affirming therapies and work from a polyvagal-informed lens, incorporating body-centred and somatic approaches that integrate narrative and emotionally focused therapies to empower clients in identifying and reconstructing the meanings they carry about their experiences.

Life is full of challenges that don’t have to be navigated alone and I would be honoured to be a part of your journey towards growth, healing, and self-discovery. I’d like to thank you for your vulnerability and willingness to show up for yourself and ask for help - as I recognize it isn’t easy. Therapy is a powerful tool that can help heal old wounds, improve personal well-being, & create meaningful change in our lives. Your past may influence your present, however, it does not need to determine your future.

Humanistic Counsellors

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualisation and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioural therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
