Halfmoon Counselling Services consists of registered social workers and clinical counsellors who bring years of experience working within mental health and addiction services. We base our approach on evidence-based, trauma-informed, and collaborative practice. Our strength-based practice supports clients in developing short-term goals to create stability and symptom relief; and long-term goals to challenge persistent and problematic thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
We seek to work with individuals and their families to move from suffering, to leading engaging and fulfilling lives.
Our Team
I am a Registered Clinical Social Worker and Registered Clinical Counsellor providing counselling and assessment services for children, youth, adults, and families. My practice is grounded in creating a warm, supportive, and non-judgmental space where clients feel genuinely understood while also receiving practical, evidence-based support. I work with concerns including anxiety, ADHD, emotional regulation, self-esteem, life transitions, parenting challenges, and neurodivergence. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to each individual’s unique needs, drawing from CBT/DBT/ACT and using play and expressive therapy.

My name is Geoff and I received my Masters of Social Work degree from the University of British Columbia as well as my Bachelors of Education degree. Since 2009 I have been working in the mental health and addictions field as well as the public and private school systems. As both a fully licensed Social Worker and Teacher, I have spent the majority of my practice working with youth and Young adults and helping them overcome a variety of issues related to their mental health. I have significant experience working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, substance misuse, stress (school/career/interpersonal) and psychosis.

One of the things I have noticed, especially as use of technology has extended our view, is our tendency to compare and minimize our own suffering. Many of us become quite skilled at adapting to pain, becoming hyper-independent, highly capable, or convincing ourselves support is something we earn only once we can no longer cope. My interest in this field comes from a belief that we deserve support throughout the process of being human, not only in moments of crisis. As an intern counsellor, I am pleased to offer affordable counselling sessions as you navigate uncertainty, change, or challenge.

Major life events can take a toll on our mental health. Even positive transitions can leave us feeling anxious, depressed and alone. My great passion is empowering clients, who include women, children, youth, individuals and families, with the knowledge and skillset to endure difficult passages in life to arrive at a place feeling secure and fulfilled. I have experience and have completed supervised practicums in Substance Use Services, Adult, Children, Youth and Family Counselling, and Career Counselling and Program Development.
