My ideal client is that individual who has experienced trauma in their life, be it violence, loss of a loved one, divorce or separation or death of a loved one. They feel lost and do not know how or where to begin from in the reconstruction of their lives. They so desire to live a normal life but their trauma does not permit them. They want to be free and pick up their lives from where they got off track.

My theoretical orientation and clinical approach is a client-centred, strengths-based integrated cognitive behavioral therapist incorporating positive psychology with an existential and humanistic lens. I believe that everyone is resilient and has the ability to make positive changes in their lives and the lives of others. I worked for ten years with marginalized individuals involved with the justice system who have experienced trauma, loss, crisis, addictions, sexual abuse, and violence. I work from a multicultural social justice lens with children, youth, adult individuals, family and couples.

I have experience in the following: supporting survivors of sexual/interpersonal/structural violence; harm reduction and substance use; grief and loss; anxiety and depression; PTSD; healing from racial trauma; navigating interpersonal relationships; workplace bullying; LGBTQAA identities; exploring kink; poly relationships; sex work; & migrant justice.
I am a queer femme of colour who is working to support collective healing and liberation by offering individual counselling. My approach is to support individuals to build upon existing strengths and daily practices to ensure that they have the tools to live their life in alignment with their own values and desires. I see my role as creating a container to support a person in developing deeper accountability and consent in their relationship with themselves and with others.

I WELCOME ALL OF YOU who are ready to make deep and lasting changes in your life to find fulfillment, meaning, new skills and appreciation. I believe that each one of us is on a journey of recovery, healing, repairing, growing and learning how to manifest authentically and creatively. I also believe that the individual personal work we do directly impacts those in our life and our society at large. I know that we need to be connected to our families, neighbours, communities to find health. Similarly, we need to honour our land, our resources and all sentient beings. I look forward to meeting you in person or at a distance.

It’s hard to feel like people will understand you when you’ve been through difficult life experiences and have had to do hard things to survive. Getting control of your emotions and finding a way to stop the pain and suffering is possible. You may fear that feeling deeply makes you weak but your strength comes from your sensitivity and your ability to make it through tough times, even when you’re afraid the world won’t understand or that people will abandon you. You might feel like something is wrong with you or that no matter what you do nothing will get better.

Hello there, I’m Amy. I'm a therapist (MSW) who is passionate about holding space for transformational experiences. Recognizing that we all have different financial circumstances, I encourage clients to determine the rate per session that works for them (between $100 - $140).

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
