My practice focuses on supporting clients with questions and concerns related to (but not exclusively): gender identity and/or sexual orientation, anxiety and depression, grief, stress, neurodiversity, self-esteem, and challenges within interpersonal relationships.
Thank you for considering me in your search for a therapist. It is my belief that the most meaningful therapy is grounded in the safety and fit of the client-therapist relationship. I strive to maintain a practice that is authentic, transparent, and honouring of the courage it takes to arrive in therapy. My approach is integrative and often draws from both person-centred and narrative methodologies as well as my lived experience as a transgender person. I strive to create a warm and inclusive space that fosters collaboration, discussion and self-exploration.

Welcoming new clients! Like the transition from fall to winter, we all go through seasons that threaten our livelihood and shake us from thriving to dormancy. This often leaves us questioning our meaning and purpose. Your experience may be a devastating loss, lack of energy, motivation, and enjoyment in activities and people that once brought you joy or physical and psychological restlessness. It is difficult in such states to understand how flourishing is possible. However, there is hope! Just as winter gives way to spring showers and new life springs forth to flourishing, neither is your situation hopeless; you can thrive again.

I have both an M.Ed. in Counselling as well as a Master of Social Work, and have been working with children and families for years. Although I occasionally take on adults who are looking for a dynamic, supportive and humour-filled therapy experience, I now work mostly with children. While part of my caseload is always reserved for kids/adults dealing with trauma or complicated grief, my current passion is working with children with social, emotional and behavioural challenges. I also do a great deal of work with kids who are struggling to cope with a parent's/sibling's disability or illness - anything from cancer to PTSD.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
