My passion is working with adults experiencing trauma, life transitions, adjustment to illness, grief, relationship challenges.
Immediate, In Person availability. Sometimes, life becomes more than we can comfortably manage. We may feel unfulfilled, sad, irritable, worried and disconnected from who we are, who we love and the life we want to live. We may feel powerless to change our situation. However, change is possible! I work collaboratively with people of all ages, honoring their unique experiences while simultaneously supporting them to increase strategies and build resiliency and confidence. Whether it is a slight ‘tweak’ or a deeper concern you wish to explore, I am happy to provide support.

Relationships are at the core of feeling love and belonging. However, when our relationships are functioning poorly we can experience anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, grief, or anger. In this space, we will explore how early life relationships shaped your attachment, communication, and conflict patterns to connect them to the impact they are having in your current life. From there, we can develop healthy new patterns. I also work with couples on their communication, boundaries, intimacy, meeting needs, and trust. Together you will learn to communicate safely and predictably and co-create your ideal intimate life.

In particular, I specialize in all things love, sex, and death.
Things seem pretty awful right now, and you're wondering if you'll ever feel "okay". You're looking for someone who can listen without judgement, help you learn new coping skills, and create a plan to feel better. I believe that every person lives a life with unique challenges and that providing personalized care requires unique solutions. A "cookie cutter" approach simply won't work - instead, we will get to know one-another, and create a plan to help you feel better together. You deserve to be seen as an individual with a unique therapeutic approach that fits who you are, and who you want to be.

I have worked with individuals, couples and families from a pastoral framework for more than twenty years, through a wide variety of major life events such as marriage and pre-marriage counselling, separations & divorce, couples with partner addictions, violence / betrayal, birth of children and the loss of children from serious illness and stillborn births.
Navigating life and relationships can be challenging, exhausting, confusing, and downright overwhelming. In a world where one is constantly connected through social media, increasingly, we can feel isolated and alone as we strive to meet relationship and work demands, while living up to our own personal and relational expectations. In seasons of uncertainty, it is normal to feel a sense of spinning out of control, and struggling with where do I go from here? The thought of therapy can be scary, which is why I am committed to creating an environment of trust and understanding.

I am skilled and enjoy working most notably in the areas of sexual orientation and gender identity (including medical transition supports), self-worth and healthy relationships, grief/loss/life transitions, and couples counselling.
Whether you find yourself going through a rough time, or you finally have the capacity to address ongoing issues, now is your moment to focus on you. Every person has inner resources and gifts to help them heal and find balance, and sometimes we also need a little help and guidance along the way. I bring to my work authenticity, humour and compassion that focuses on truly understanding your unique story and goals, while supporting you to nurture the strengths you already possess. I provide counselling services to individuals age 18 and older, and couples counselling inclusive of all relationship models.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
