Many of my clients seek relief from issues they find painfully disruptive as they struggle to manage or change their circumstances. They have difficulty developing healthy coping mechanisms for their situation, and it is now manifesting in faulty perspectives, assumptions or values. My person-centred approach to counselling focuses on the client by looking at coping skills for immediate relief and then heavier issues to understand the source of pain. If you are struggling to take the first step on your therapy journey I will walk you through some of the uncertainty and help ease your worries during your consultation session.

Are you noticing some ongoing challenges in your relationships to others and yourself? Do you ever feel a void, an emptiness or even a cloud following you wherever you go and you can't seem to fully get why? That can be an extremely difficult and painful experience, especially as you are trying to navigate through the world. Unfortunately, most of us don't set enough time aside to tune into ourselves, heal some of our wounds and navigate through our complex layers. This avoidance can lead to some long-term affects in our intimate relationships, at work, with our kids, and more.

Healing and recovery begin with acceptance. Choosing peace over chaos. Life often takes unpredictable turns and no one is immune from adversities. Despite our best efforts, we often need a ladder or a bridge to assist us to connect, reconnect, recover, discover, to achieve self-actualization and empowerment. I recognize that Everyone is unique, every situation is exceptional and there is no one size fits all solution. I provide a safe space within which you may initiate your self-actualization and empowerment. Together, we foster hope and develop the expectation of change, within a sphere of hope, motivation and determination.

Life is short, and it is also long, when faced with daily challenges and overwhelming emotions, unhealed pain, it can feel insurmountable. If you are wanting to move your life forward and are willing to put in the work then I hope to be of help to you. I do not claim to be for everyone, but I do work to achieve your goals in time limited, 3-6 months psychotherapy aimed at improving your coping skills and your tolerance of the circumstances causing you distress and upset. There are always exceptions, but if we’re engaged for years than one of us is not doing our part, and that won’t ever be me. Finding the right connection is key.

We all may experience difficulties and stresses in life that can negatively affect how we feel about ourselves and our ability to live or lives. When problems take hold, we can feel stuck. It can be helpful to have a place to explore what is causing difficulty and find solutions to move out of the problem. I work with people who want to take their lives back from the effects of the problems they are stuggling with. Some examples of the problems I have helped clients with are depression, anger, grief, impacts of trauma, relationship difficulties, work/school related stress and effects of injustice.

All achievements begin with the decision to try. If you are reading this, first and foremost, congratulate yourself for deciding to try. Understanding who you are and the challenges that you face is no easy feat. Deciding to tackle them with the support of another individual means that you see yourself as valuable. Those who work with me may be having a tough time managing their day-to-day responsibilities, may be grieving a loss, or may need skills to help them regulate their emotions.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
