I am certified in Grief and Bereavement education, in good standing with the ADEC and CCPA. I work from a person-centered approach and believe that each individual is the expert of their own life. Having experienced first-hand the physical, emotional and mental stress and anxiety brought on by illness and disease such as cancer, and related losses, my devotion, and passion lies in walking with you through what is a turbulent journey, one that does not need to be faced alone. I have completed my Master of Counselling and field practicum under the supervision of Dr. Bassam Khoury (www.drkhoury-montrealtherapist.com).

This includes working through difficult life events like infidelity, illness, loss, breakups, job changes, new roles - parenting, marriage.
Is an important relationship causing you distress? Is it your partner? Your family? Your boss? YourSELF? "Something" is not working within you. Relationships are complicated and are hard to understand. In individual or couples therapy, our work together is to get to the root of your distress, your suffering. We will work to find meaningful, concrete and insightful solutions to better understand yourself and your patterns with others. We will work to either accept, let go or make NEW changes to improve your relationships with others or within yourSELF. The idea is to DO different so life is more meaningful and satisfying.

All of us have, at times, struggled to live our lives in a way that feels fulfilling. We can become stuck in a cycle of negative thinking, dreary feelings, and ineffectual behaviours. In the midst of the many challenges in life, having someone share part of the journey with you and help provide clarity can be enormously helpful. I am a psychologist with twenty years of experience counselling individuals, leading groups, and supervising therapists-in-training. I have successfully treated a variety of needs and find meaning in working with grief and loss, anxiety, depression, and trauma.

I worked for a long time with victims of violence ( organised violence, conjugal violence )in other countries than Canada and in Canada (QC) with a lot of long term psychotraumatic sequellae: my experience permit to my client to learn doin the mourning of past traumatic situations and to liberate a mental space that permit a relance of the psychic dynamic .
I follow with my client the main steps and events of his life story ( including if it, s the case immigration story), the mournings in waiting or which are difficult to do, the psychotraumatic sequellae which deteriorate his life day by day. With my client I notice his main reactions and how he is managing his personal and social life. I suggest to my client to identify the changes he wants to bring in his life and I try to show him how he could succeed in and how I can help him to succeed.

I have a particular interest in working with people who feel thin-skinned or sensitive in their relationships, people who carry pain from grief and family or relationship conflict, and people who have been trying to make changes but are finding it hard.
I specialize in treating adults and adolescents (16+) struggling with depression, anxiety, eating disorders, relationships, addictions, sexuality and chronic illness. My clients tell me that therapy works best for them when we take the time to develop a trusting professional relationship in which it becomes possible for us to understand and explore more deeply the inner conflicts, feelings, patterns and obstacles that are causing pain and holding them back. I offer a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space. My clinical approach draws primarily from psychoanalytic psychotherapy, but I also integrate research and training in CBT, mindfulness and family systems theory.

Whether it's a new baby, the loss of a loved one, a betrayal, tension in relationships, or a recent relocation... sometimes we lose our footing. You may find that your usual coping tools are no longer bringing you the same relief. Unlike blogs and books that offer one-size-fits-all advice, or unlike your friends and family who mean well, but are too emotionally-invested to give you clear guidance, I offer you effective tools, unique to your needs and situation, in a non-judgmental and safe space. I’m a bilingual (English & French) somatic psychotherapist and Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in Quebec, Colorado and California.

The psychotherapy I am offering aims to understand the nature of your current difficulties and their underlying conflicts. The psychothetapetical treatment focuses on unresolved issues or repressed trauma, bringing the latent conflicts to consciousness. Gradually, you are becoming aware of the unconscious aspects of your distress, which eventually allows you to overcome it. I am giving importance to the development of trust and will encourages you to freely express your emotions, thoughts, memories and dreams.

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
