I entered this field as a way to heal my own wounds while trying to work through the sudden and tragic loss of a family member. I am often reminded of the quote by A.E. Housman - 'I, a stranger and afraid, in a world I never made', and know what it's like to lose hope in a rapidly changing world, with many things supposedly outside of our control. My intention is to use my real-life experience as a way to offer hope and possibility to those who’ve had to deal with similar pain, grief, and suffering in their lives. At the moment, I am generally offering short to mid-term therapy (between 5-10 sessions).

Loss can have many faces: the death of a loved one, relationships ending, changes in your health (or hormones), unfulfilled dreams.
I am passionate about working with women and addressing issues that are standing in the way of you experiencing life from a place of joy, self-love and empowerment. As women we tend to wear many hats such as daughter, mother, spouse, caregiver, career woman. Low self-esteem, co-dependency or inability to say no, feeling responsible, poor body image, fertility issues, sexual abuse or abuse, perfectionism or emotional eating...all these challenges can create stress and overwhelm which can lead to anxiety, depression and more. Pls check out my website www.goddessrevealed.ca for more information about my work.

Life’s hardships can break us into pieces. We may feel like we want to throw in the towel. We might lose our confidence in ourselves. We might be oppressed, feeling depressed. We might feel lonely. We might be going through major transitions, grief, heartbreaks. No matter how hard life can get, we can always find the path to freedom. That is where therapy comes in. Therapy encourages you to face life’s hardships willingly, with courage and trust that can be hard to cultivate otherwise.

I also have experience working with depression, anxiety, panic, grief, personality disorders, substance and process addictions, parenting/family issues, relationships, co-dependence, mood and personality disorders.
I draw from a range approaches depending upon your needs and preferences. Among them are cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal neurobiological ideas, family systems therapy, and attachment theory. It is common for clients to arrive with issues identified only to discover that there are other deeper and more fundamental issues which underlie them. I work at a pace compatible with your ability to integrate change. I am gentle and encouraging, but firm and forthright. I provide a free initial consultation so you can determine whether you feel comfortable with me. My aim is for you to feel welcome, safe and comfortably challenged.

Whether you are re-taking control of your life and starting over or you are looking to set time aside for your mental wellbeing, Art Therapy can help. Art Therapy is widely used as an auxiliary treatment for depression, illness and chronic pain, addiction and trauma. Children and Youth particularly respond well to Art Therapy as it offers a less confrontational approach to counselling . I have experience working with children and youth with various challenges stemming from parental separation, anxiety disorders, grief and loss and especially difficulties with social inclusion and feeling outcasted.

This may be your first time working with a therapist or maybe a venture away from avenues you've explored so far. I'm happy to meet you at any stage of your journey and offer kindness and empathy while walking that path with you. In particular, I have a compassionate understanding of the struggles known by those experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD/CPTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, BPD, grief, and difficulty with relationships, self-esteem, and intimacy. I’ve worked extensively with first responders and military. Under unbearable weight, I understand that addiction and self-harming patterns are often a means of coping.

I work with clients who want to find relief from their struggles with the following: depression, anxiety, anger, grief and loss, worthlessness, despair, disordered eating, life/work transitions, addiction (substances, pornography and gambling), and the negative impact of sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, and poverty. Often in the beginning, people come in feeling overwhelmed and frustrated and may be clearer initially of what isn't working for them or what they no longer want in their life. I believe these feelings are a resource to reveal what you do want in your life, what's important to you, your values, hopes, dreams and commitments.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
