All humans have the capacity for wellness, healing, and growth, despite the adversities we face. As a former national team athlete and current RCC, I have a unique understanding of the psychological pressures that coincide with sport-participation and managing difficult emotions. I also enjoy working with a diverse range of clients (14+) and couples to address a variety of concerns. These areas may include, but are not limited to, challenges with performance and social anxiety, depression, trauma/abuse, relational conflict, grief/loss, and disordered eating/RED-S.

Perhaps you are struggling with the anxiety, stress, and potential grief of life transitions - school, work, or relationship challenges with yourself or others. Possibly you have been living with chronic pain and you want to explore other coping mechanisms. Maybe you don't feel like you have anyone to turn to in your life for fear of burdening them with your thoughts and feelings. If any of that lands for you, then I'm grateful you have taken the first step in exploring your options by being here.

As a Queer man I have a special interest in supporting people to explore topics such as sexuality, gender, identity, grief, life transitions, relationships and the experiences that inform these things (in all their fluidity).
I believe that people grow and change through connection with others. This requires connection, togetherness and validation in our unique experiences. I prioritize a safe, mutually authentic and non-judgmental counselling experience. I focus on the strength of our connectedness as client and counsellor. I also pay attention to the social and cultural contexts we live in. With this foundation in place we can explore who you are, where you come from, what matters most to you, and how life's challenges are getting in the way of these things.

Are you stuck between where you are, and where you would like to be? Life can be challenging and sometimes all we need is to share our story and consider what opportunities exist for us today. Examining our beliefs and considering the possibilities creates hope for our future. My work is directed towards helping clients better manage challenges such as anxiety, worry, fear, depression, anger, relationship conflict, addiction, trauma, life transitions, loss and grief, energy regulation, and to create better opportunities for the future. A life of health, happiness and harmony - isn't that what we looking for?

If you are wondering if your life is "on the right path," you are not alone. One thing I've noticed as a helping professional for the past almost-20 years is how going through life transitions without guidance can lead to negative thoughts and self-blame or shame. Support and awareness in times of change means that the change process reflects your values and hopes for life. Therapy includes understanding two kinds of stories: the external stories that are told about us (usually these are very unfair!) and the internal stories that emerge in response (usually these are overly protective!). I will help you to break out of that cycle.

Deep inside of you is the awareness of what you need to heal. I help facilitate and unearth that inner wisdom with individuals, couples, and groups. Together, we'll practice tuning into your own unique embodied awareness. From there, we can translate that increased clarity into tangible action that aligns with your greatest, most authentic wellbeing. Our bodies exist within larger systems — many of which can disconnect us from ourselves and each other. We'll look together at the messages we've internalized from these systems in order to unearth the ones that are no longer helpful.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
