I love working with trauma and have specialized experience with first responders. I get how it changes the way you think, feel and act so can work with emotional dysregulation and behavioural issues too. Addiction is common, and often a way to cope, and it's the underlying issues I enjoy nurturing and healing. At times, I work with people struggling in relationships, sometimes with themselves, or as they adjust to relationship change or loss. Other times I support people as they navigate life transitions like employment changes, navigating pregnancy and parenthood, reconciling health issues, or effects of aging.

My practice currently focusses on Neurofeedback. Seeing a Neurofeedback therapist is a different kind of therapy experience. The main focus of your sessions is on improving your brain health and retraining your brain waves so that you’ll begin to feel better, sooner. Neurofeedback can help with a wide range of difficulties including those related to mental health and wellness, ADHD, ASD, learning struggles, disrupted sleep, mTBI/concussions, and long Covid. It is therapy with the brain in mind. Neurofeedback is a way of teaching the nervous system how to regulate itself, getting it 'unstuck' and more flexible and resilient.

Humor, genuine compassion and empathy are necessary for healing - especially the humor part! Which is why they are benchmarks of my clinical practice. Combined together, the healing force created is a 'game changer' in people's lives. My approach to psychotherapy is person centered (congrats, you are unique! Your therapy should be too), grounded in attachment theory (relationships are our friend! Don't argue...everyone needs a friend) and developmental psychology (we all go through life changes, change suucks, but it's unavoidable). All this guides our path to wellness. Heads up - standard credential speech ahead...

What keeps us feeling like we are in limbo/stuck? Unresolved issues and traumas can keep us feeling and/or thinking that we are not progressing as we'd like, resulting in many feelings of being overwhelmed, burned out, and experiencing physical/emotional pains. Over 18 years of clinical experience, I can help you to discover and identify the core issues/patterns/beliefs, while inspiring hope and courage while you walk a more integrated path living life with more joy and abundance; with feelings of rejuvenation and release; and with an expanded self-awareness, emotional balance, and clearer thinking.

As a Registered Psychologist, I specialize in using neurofeedback therapy. It is a very unique type of therapy that I find to be incredibly effective for many mental health concerns. Trauma, either physical or emotional, can cause the brain to lose its balance. Instead of medications, or talk therapy, we go right to the source of many issues, the brain. By training the brain to have better activity, you will notice improvements in many areas of your life! Sessions are relaxing (many people even sleep through a session), very safe, simple and effective.

At Country Counselling, we are here to serve you! Wouldn’t it be nice to have your counselling appointments in a relaxed non-traditional atmosphere in the country, as opposed to a very clinical setting? Wouldn’t it be nice if your therapist incorporated treatment at your pace? Wouldn’t it be nice to have treatment plans with tangible direction that incorporate biological, psychological, emotional, nutritional, biofeedback techniques and somatic/exercise components? Wouldn’t it be nice to have an eclectic approach based on research that incorporates the best of what we know about treatment for your issue?

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
