I have experience working with military and RCMP members and veterans, First Responders, children, adolescents and adults who have endured traumatic experiences, loss/grief, anxiety and depression.
Painful and terrifying experiences that we experience in childhood as well as in adulthood, can have lasting negative effects on our lives. These experiences often leave us feeling overwhelmed, stuck, isolated and having difficulties managing strong emotions such as anxiety, depression, anger, sadness, shame and guilt. Taking the first step towards addressing these challenges can be anxiety provoking; my role is to join you on this journey towards healing.

By bringing together my specialized training in perinatal mental health and your personal experience and understanding of yourself, we can work together to soften the edges of anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma so that you can live more fully.
Birth can be beautiful and scary. And when a birth doesn't go as planned, it can affect us in ways that we never expected. Right now, you may be staring at your newborn feeling overwhelmed by intrusive thoughts, sadness, or fear. Or maybe you’re reeling from a miscarriage, stillbirth, or TFMR, and you need someone to help carry your pain without dismissal or judgment. Or you've gotten through that first year and are dreading the end of your leave and don't know how you're going to get through the transition to work and daycare. If this is you, I can help!

People are often at a point in life where they realize that change needs to occur in order to promote psychological well being. I work with clients to identify their unique skills and facilitate change at their own pace. I offer services to children, teens, adults, and the elderly. The statement that drives my life view is: "Life is colourful and constantly changing." Nature appears to attest to this philosophy as well with the four seasons of colors and changes. With every season, life (and death) ebbs and flows, always towards what is to come...whatever that may be.

I specialize in working with clients who have experienced the loss of a loved one through death or disconnection.
Are you grieving? Are you feeling overwhelmed? When we have lost someone or something in our lives, being overwhelmed is normal. We often need to tell our story again and again, in order to process and heal through our losses. Sometimes we need additional support to do this very task in grief, to feel the rollercoaster of emotions with loss but also actively mourn our losses and be able to learn how to hold our stories differently. After 17 years, as a Grief Counsellor at The Grief Support Program, I have moved into private practice to continue this sacred work. I would be honored to work with you in your healing journey.

ART can treat many issues, such as grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, phobias, and more, often in just a few sessions.
I believe it is important to be heard and respected, especially when one is actively making changes in their life. I have over 30 years experience working in the mental heath sector in Calgary, with the past 16 years spent at Alberta Health Services as a Mental Health Clinician working with adults. I provide a holistic, client-centered approach, and use a variety of therapeutic modalities. I am particularly interested in helping people recover from trauma, grief and loss, using Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). It is a non-invasive, evidence-based psychotherapy providing relief from distressing or traumatic images or memories.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
