My current practice includes assessment and therapy for schizophrenia and psychosis, mood and adjustment issues (grief/loss, depression, Bipolar Disorder), anxiety issues, obsessive-compulsive patterns (OCD), trauma and stress, sleep issues, addictions, anger management, and relationship issues.
I believe that psychology is a tool for solving problems and working through change. In my career, I have helped many people 'get unstuck', overcoming emotional difficulties and working through trauma, grief, and loss. I also regularly work with couples and families, helping with challenges including marital conflict and parenting difficulties. My approach is integrative, and tailored to each person that I meet. I draw upon a number of evidenced-based approaches, including emotion-focused therapy, psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, experiential therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy.

Some of the issues I work best with are anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief, caregiving exhaustion, infidelity, couple or family challenges, self-esteem and identity problems, eating disorders, and addiction.
In my initial sessions, clients usually say, “I want someone that gets me.” This is a shared feeling; I also want my therapist to “get me” and connect with me. Hence, I use evidence-based approaches to build this connection with my clients, honoring their stories and enabling them to feel heard, unjudged, and respected. This alliance, I believe, is fundamental to the results we collaboratively attain in therapy. I work with children, teens, young adults, seniors, couples, and families from a person-centered, systemic, and strength-based lens.

Are you living in 2 worlds as a South Asian Canadian, hiding parts of your identity? This conflict leaves you experiencing guilt, shame, anxiety, a loss of autonomy and self, as you walk the tightrope of everybody's expectations of you. Growing up in a home environment that is completely different from your outside world can drastically impact your well-being and leave you asking “Who am I”? This can be exacerbated by enmeshed family dynamics. Culturally using your voice and setting boundaries feels selfish at first - but we can get you there together. You will learn and unlearn things as you proudly grow into your authentic self.

The joys we experience in our day-to-day lives can be derailed when we become overwhelmed and confused by what we are feeling and what to do with those feelings. To experience peace, develop meaningful connections, and maintain a sense of contentment, it is necessary that we learn to identify what might be negatively impacting us and approach it with curiosity. The ideal future you envision for yourself is within reach when it is pursued in a safe and non-judgmental environment with a person you can trust. I take a holistic approach that views all symptoms, physical and emotional, as our body and mind’s way of communicating with us.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
