Are long term difficulties due to complex and traumatic experiences (often going back to childhood) continuing to make life challenging for you? Do you have an unspoken and/or unexplored grief that accompanies these experiences? Is your current relationship struggling? To add to this complexity are you neurodiverse (eg., ADHD, austism spectrum disorder, gifted) or suspect you are? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions you are like many of my clients.

As an experienced grief, life transition and relationship therapist, I believe that old hurts can resurface in tough times and cause us to repeat patterns that get in the way of our relationships, goals and our lives.
This wasn’t the way it was supposed to be. You want to appear like you have it “all together”, but deep down you are anything but! Stressed out, anxious and full of self-doubt, you feel alone and overwhelmed as you struggle with unexpected challenges. Clients come to me looking for a therapist who has clinical experience and life experience because therapy should be a place where you feel safely guided by someone who can offer ideas and strategies when you feel stuck.

I have experience working with military and RCMP members and veterans, First Responders, children, adolescents and adults who have endured traumatic experiences, loss/grief, anxiety and depression.
Painful and terrifying experiences that we experience in childhood as well as in adulthood, can have lasting negative effects on our lives. These experiences often leave us feeling overwhelmed, stuck, isolated and having difficulties managing strong emotions such as anxiety, depression, anger, sadness, shame and guilt. Taking the first step towards addressing these challenges can be anxiety provoking; my role is to join you on this journey towards healing.

Grief is a natural and unique experience. Hello! I am a holistic grief specialist. I am not your typical talk counsellor. I help adult Albertan’s connect to their mind, body, spirit and life again after a death, loss or life change. Grief is unique in how each person experiences it. Grief can be chaotic, overwhelming, isolating and sometimes leaving you feeling you have no control of your mind, body and life. Having both personal and professional experience with death, loss and unpredictable changes, allows me to be thoughtful about the importance of creating a safe space to share your raw emotions, thoughts and story of loss.

As such, I have years of experience helping others who have experienced stress and anxiety, depression, grief and loss, life transitions, as well as those who needed crisis intervention, or suicide intervention.
You are an intelligent, sophisticated, and open-minded individual who is an expert on who you are. You recognize the need to talk to someone and share your troubles, thoughts, and feelings with them. You may be searching for acceptance, understanding, or the undivided attention that both listening and therapy provides. You may need the reassurance that what you have to share is going to be heard and received without judgment. Whether you are feeling anxious, depressed, angry, stressed, grief, frustrated, or just need to hear another perspective, the assurance that you are not alone in your thoughts, can help ease the anguish.

Hello! Throughout my professional life I have had the opportunity to work with children, teenagers and adults who have struggled with issues such as grief and loss, depression and suicidal ideation, anxiety, interpersonal relationship difficulties, and self-esteem issues. I take a relaxed and non-judgmental approach in working with clients, in hopes that therapy will be as comfortable and organic as possible. I recognize that struggling from time to time is an inevitable part of life, and sometimes you just need a little bit of outside help, or a different perspective, while you work through the tough times.

Sometimes it’s the grief of losing a loved one, or a traumatic experience they had.
I believe that our mind, body and spirit hold the key to our emotional wellbeing. Somewhere along the way into adulthood, this connection between the head, the heart, and the body falter and begin to cause us distress. People lose the ability to "trust their gut" or are unable to identify what they are feeling during particular times of loss or conflict. My approach aims to identify where the disconnect is, and work collaboratively to bring all three back into focus. It is said "the longest journey you will ever make is from your head to your heart" and my goal is to support people as they take the steps needed to get there.

I have experience working with individuals who have been coping with trauma, grief, anxiety, mood disorders, personality disorders and schizophrenia spectrum disorders.
In challenging times such as those we are experiencing today, it is only normal to feel overwhelmed, anxious, angry and sad. Our world and the life we knew have changed. Some of us lost their jobs, some of us lost activities which were close to their hearts, some of us lost their dreams and plans, and some of us lost their loved ones. Covid-19 constitutes a universal struggle, and it also imposes additional distress for some of us who were already coping with mental health issues. While Covid-19 forces distance, you don't need to be alone with your pain. I believe that every struggle is also an opportunity for personal growth.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
